Match 1: Once Upon A Time In 2016

When I first started playing this game, Lodestone was a lively place. A lot of people writing blogs sharing their experience in game. I remember seeing fan fiction, job/rotation guide, DF rant, life, etc. I remember someone managed to angle his GC squadron in a almost look like sexualize position and did screenshot on it. Well, like it or not, I was simply impressed.

Back then there was no discord. There was no server travel, so you are stuck with whatever server you sign up your account, unless you want to pay to get out or create a different character. Without knowing it, I created my character in Shiva which turns out to be a German server. I manage to join an English FC, but the community back then was small. Therefore, I hang out in Lodestone because people speak English here. When I first start writing on Lodestone, I wrote lists of the target I was trying to meet. Things like level this job etc. It was very boring stuff. But someone will come across my post and offer some advice and encouragement. So I wrote more, hoping to tell them that I took their advice and had a good time.

Then, there came a day in November. It was the US presidential election with Clinton vs Trump. US president is a complicated job. Despite all the noise coming out from the campaign stage, I thought in the end people will vote for someone who has governing/political experience. Anyhow, I am not a US citizen, and I can't vote. So I just went to bed early that day. Got up and go to work, watched the news for the shocker. By the time when I log on to Lodestone again, almost a day had passed.

From what others told me, as the election result came out, there was discussion on Lodestone. Argument started and insult exchanged. The admin came purging people, basically, giving out permanent ban with no recourse. Up to this day, I still have no idea what exactly happened that night, like who got banned for saying exactly what. I also doubt SE banned everybody. However, it was since then there seems to be less posts, less comment, less humour. I don't think a lot of people actually interested in talking about politics, or anything controversial in a gaming website. I just wonder if some of them got fed up because they were more or less told what they can talk about and what they cannot. Then, there is reddit, and later discord became popular. It is easier to engage with others there with clearer rules.

But what truly bothers me after all these years, is I fail to find words to express how I feel about all these.

I suppose it is one of those situations where the correct response will be: what can I do about this? Nothing. If so, let's move on.

Something bad happens, but you don't know why, you can't do anything apart from standing around watching it falls apart. Well.

Yeah, I hear many stories of that time, how it pretty much killed the loadstone. Shame too.

Personally, I don't see why people use Discord for posting and such. it's absolutely TERRIBLE for forum use!
Sure you can have different channels for stuff, but God help you if you want to try and see old posts for any reason. Anything people write will be swallowed up fast by newer posts and pretty much gone.

And Reddit, UGH, toxic, toxic, toxic, No WAY would I EVER post anything there.

But I wonder, then what medium does people use for sharing fan created work? If I want to share my game play, I can go to twitch and do livestream. If I have a question to ask, I go to reddit. If I feel talking to people about game stuff, I can find a discord channel with a civilized chat room. However, if I have fan-fiction? Art? I know there are site being setup by RP people sharing their stories via forum format, but it is very local. For some reason Lodestone is not appeal to them.

There is actually a place for fan fiction, I made an account there to throw my stories on but never used it.

I found it, 'Archive of Our Own'. LOTS of fan fiction of all kinds there, including ff14.
