Get ready for a long one, much ado over the weekend!
SaturdayPlayed some
Baldur's Gate today. Completed chapter 3, but lost my bard because of stupidity. I got in a hurry and opened a trapped chest, which released a chain lightning bolt that fried my bard and nearly killed my archer. So I started up another game, this time with a "fun" fighter/mage/thief character, being more liberal with the cheats (while still not going too crazy with them, just whatever saves time & trouble). I made it to the beginning of chapter four with him, but he got toasted by a lightning spell that one-shot him. *sigh*
And totally on a whim, I decided to make
a top 10 RPGs list. After reading/watching a fair amount of top 10 <insert video game genre> lists recently, I thought it'd be kinda neat to come up with my own.
SundaySunday morning I played
Planescape: Torment for the first time in ~20 years, just like Baldur's Gate. Has it been so long?! I forgot how really interesting the plot is in this game: Just a guy with Deadpool immortality - you can kill him, but he just revives shortly after - doing some soul-searching, and not the usual
High Fantasy-type stuff. And because your characters run like Forrest Gump, and all the NPCs just walk, I seldom need to use cheats (specifically the "teleport to cursor" cheat), so that cuts out a lot of tedium right there.
Played some
Baldur's Gate this evening. I got to the final chapter four fight, and one of the mages casted a mass confusion spell on my group, resulting in my mage getting the shit beat out of him by two of my other party members and my archer
gunning bowing down a horse and almost murdering another one. Only 4 party members left now *sigh*.
I also did a solo run as well, but only got as far as chapter two, and ended up shutting down, as the poor/lack of sleep was coming back to haunt me. So much for that.
MondayAaaaaaand on Monday morning, more
Planescape: Torment. Learned a valuable lesson:
Don't kill NPCs with proper names. (sometimes the conversations head down that way, and I have no choice in that matter). You lose out on valuable rewards (XP/gold/perks). Did an interesting quest in this game too: Allow someone to kill me - remember, I'm basically immortal. I can be killed, but I come right back - and they'll pay me 1,000 copper (the standard in-game currency). Can't think of any games with
that kind of quest lol!
Squeenix
had to have gotten the
Debate and Discourse quest - possibly even the whole Amaurot, for that matter - from this game. Good to know that they play a wide variety of games, and not just other JRPGs.
Oh, and before I forget, I did a brief workout, but it was just the
"incline" cable crossovers. I tacked on heavier bands this time, so the crease in my elbows were already sore after a few reps.
So, for the
evening session today - and it was a full session this time, not a quickie one - I did the hunts, a leveling dungeon (Stone Vigil), and the Fairy beast tribe quests, mostly on my monk. And lo and behold he hit level 74. So after that, I started a quick crafting campaign, making all the level 74 gear for him. So he's now all geared up until 76.
And the records I played this session were:
The Alan Parsons Project - I Robot
MC5 - Kick Out the Jams
Rush - 2112
Jethro Tull - This Was
Oooookay. Boy, what a weekend! But anyway,
