Joe's D:O.S. 2/Pinball/FF XIV Streams, 1/15/2020

Public
Tuesday

Off-stream, I fiddle-farted around on Baldur's Gate 2, using the monster spawning cheat, giving my monk something to practice on. And he actually leveled up too! Definitely a fun mode.

Yeeeeaaaaa no.

This morning I played Divinity: Original Sin 2 for the first time. I like it so far! One drawback I have for it though is the fact that you can't use both a controller and a mouse & keyboard; You can only use one or the other.

And for the evening stream I played some more Divinity: Original Sin 2. I'm liking it! But it's not without its drawbacks either. And I'm gonna try a new format here, something I've seen in other websites:

Click to showClick to hide
+ Awesome and intricate graphics, animation, and artstyle. And most important of all, doesn't use up a lot of my computer resources. Very important, since I stream, which already uses up a fair amount of GPU & CPU.

+ Permadeath is an option! I like permadeath, especially when I'm new to a game, where I'm probably not going to get very far anyway, even without it.

+ Far-reaching dialogue options. I'm still new to this game, but it looks like dialogue choices you make now will affect what happens later on in the game. Already people in town are calling me selfish for abandoning the survivors in a sinking ship I was in (I talked to all of them, but they just go limp a short time afterwards, presumably dying. Apparently not, it seems. :\>). Other games, NPCs say the same thing, all the time, no matter what I did beforehand.

+ One-of-a-kind narration. The narration in this game seemingly "tags along with you", like it was your companion. Unlike Baldur's Gate, where you'll only hear him in between chapters, or Planescape: Torment, where it's text only, "The Narrator" - as I like to call him - actually talks to you (ie. it's voice-acted), telling you what the NPCs are expressing. Kinda like Dungeon Master Mobile, if that makes any sense lol.

+ Challenging yet awesome stealth mode (I play a rogue). Like Metal Gear Solid, NPCs in this game have "sight cones". And if they see you, they'll break your stealth immediately. And you can't go into stealth at all if you are already inside a cone either. This is unlike Baldur's Gate, where if you're in stealth, noone can see you at all. Period (unless they have some way of detecting invisible creatures). It's almost too easy doing it like this. But like Baldur's Gate, and unlike FF XIV (Hide is meh, only being used for Trick Attack, and to get past monsters), you can steal from shops and pickpocket NPCs. And if you're caught stealing, better reload the game, because practically the whole town comes after you lol!

+ Bartering in shops. I've only seen Path of Exile doing this, trading items for items (and different shops place different values on items, I've noticed. No universal sell values in this game, which is worth a + on its own). Most other games I've played your only option is paying with gold (or stealing them, in the case of Baldur's Gate). Nice to see more options for once.

All I can think of at the moment....

But as stated earlier, this game has a few drawbacks of it's own though:

- Slow movement. It's as bad as most other games. You can't move very fast in this one either. And there's no cheats in this game either, so I couldn't cheat in a Boots of Speed (doubles movement speed) or something.

- "Requires" Microsoft .NET Framework for some reason. I'd have to turn my Windows Update back on again, which creates a whole host of other problems on its own! I have to deny permission to do this every time I load the game up. Just a minor irritant, but still.....

- Quick save/load is not so quick. Quick save doesn't work instantly, unlike Baldur's Gate. And every time you want to quick load, you're taken back to the "Loads and loads of loading" screen, where you have to wait 10+ seconds for the game to reload itself. Makes Save Scumming less worth it.

- Immovable UI components. This game pretty much makes use of the entire screen, which means my webcam and Twitch chatbox are going to be covering up some important stuff, like the upper-left corner of the dialogue screen.

All I can think of right now. There might be more as I play more.

Wednesday

Played some Pinball this morning. Not too bad this time around. Did way better than last week, that's for sure lol.

And holy moly! I guess I must've done something right lol!

Short FF XIV session today, due to bad sleep. I did however manage to get my sammy to level 75, via hunts, Fairy beast tribe quests, and a trial & leveling roulette. Was going to play Divinity: Original Sin 2 afterwards, but couldn't keep my eyes open, so I just went ahead and called it off. -_-

And here's the LPs I played this time around:

Vangelis - Earth
The Golden Era of Dixieland Jazz, 1887-1937

And that's a wrap Thank you for your time, and you all have a good day/night. ;)>
