Joe's D.O.S. 2/FF XIV streams, 1/24/2020

Public
Thursday

Streamed some more Divinity: Original Sin 2 today, where I added a few more cheats to the game. One thing I like about these game devs: They seemingly embrace cheating in-game. They got a whole menu dedicated to it! To be fair though, if you do this, you won't be able to gain achievements, which I don't care about (unless they give you gold and/or XP). And most of them you can't turn off once you've turned them on. So once you've decided, you can't go back on that. I found one that increased your movement speed. Boosted that one, for sure! (but not too much, otherwise it lags my game & stream).

But otherwise, it was pretty much a non-productive stream, just spinning my wheels until towards the end of my session, when I found out how to advance the story plot. So, I'll have to continue on that next session.

And once again, no workout today, as my right shoulder and right bicep are kinda hurting right now. So it probably won't be until Monday when I try working out again. *sigh*

Friday

Streamed me some FF XIV this evening, and worked on leveling my sammy. I ran hunts, Fairy beast tribe quests, and a leveling, trial, and 50/60/70 roulette. I also started getting my scholar set up as well, since he'll be my next class I level up, once my sammy reaches level 80. Which won't be long now, as he has attained level 79 today. One more to go!

And here's the records I played today:

Isaac Hayes - Best of
Turk Murphy - Barrelhouse Jazz
Pink Floyd - Atom Heart Mother

Aaaaalrighty, that'll do it for me. Thanks for watching/reading, everyone. <Take care.> and have yourselves a great day/night. ;)>

Hey Joe I have a question. For reasons I won't go into yet, I want to record me playing ff14 and talking at the same time. Since you stream and obviously play and use a microphone at the same time, how do you deal with hearing the sound of your own voice? Do you not mind it? I sound TERRIBLE over the microphone and it drives me nuts

I think I need to do something to improve my speaking voice so it comes off better before I try to record

You have a deep, gravely voice, so maybe you don't mind

It was awkward as hell at first, but after a while I got used to it. I may not sound like Morgan Freeman or Tom Waits, but at least I don't sound like Jar Jar!

Otherwise, I'd also suggest, as well as recording FFXIV vids, do some out-of-game vids as well, like I'll sometimes do. Commentary/reaction-type stuff, where all you're doing is just talking, and not trying to play as well. I find that you'll sound more natural in that situation.

Good luck with your endeavor though. ;]

Thanks, yeah, I have been doing talking tests to get an idea of what I will sound like. One thing I found out is that you CAN'T talk and hear what you are saying without headphones. Trying to do it with normal speakers nearby gives nasty echo and feedback as the microphone picks up the sound from the speakers.

Also I find, it's easier to talk more clearly standing up rather than sitting for some reason. Thank god I play with a controller. ;p

Ahhh, good. You learned that one already. I thought I was going to have to show you that. It was one of the first mistakes I made when trying to get my stream up and running.

Same! I get relaxed when I'm sitting down, so I tend to become chill when I should be assertive. It's why I like streaming; Viewers can help me break out of that habit (if/when they show up, that is....).

LOL, as someone who has never used a mic with a computer before I was like, WTF is going on here? ;p

Then I realized I was trying to send and hear my voice though the speakers at the same time, and that DON'T work! To do that you NEED to use headphones so the mic does not pick up the end product.

In my case, I seem to breathe better standing up then sitting, so I have more breath for voice stuff and can speak and sound better.
