SaturdaySo, for my
Guild Wars 2 session this evening, like yesterday, it was all crafting. I was trying to get it leveled up to where I make gear that's at my level, which is currently level 18. But after doing it for a while I came to realize something: Buying - Don't judge . . . . . too harshly . . . - $75 worth of in-game gold was basically overkill for what I was trying to do. Why?:
• You unlock a new gear tier every 25 crafting levels, and they're in multiples of 5, (starting at level 15, then level 20, then 25, etc). I don't recall WoW having this. Usually it's just increments of just 1-2 levels, resulting in getting less out of what you put into. No thanks.
• Leveling crafting also levels
YOU up as well. Not that much, but I've actually gained a few character levels by doing this though. This means I don't
NEED to do all my leveling out in the field. Great for when I'm in not in the mood for combat.
• "Discovery". The "fun" part of crafting. Most recipes aren't given to you. You have to discover them on your own.
And the records that I played today were:
The Residents - Meet The Residents
Bill Cosby - Revenge
Heart - Dreamboat Annie
Tschaikovsky - 1812 Overture, and other filler tunes
SundayA good
Guild Wars 2 session today. I was playing my thief this time, doing the storyline quests, and eventually reaching level 20, when you unlock
specializations, where you basically have
FIVE skill trees to choose from, unlike FF XIV, which only has one single linear skill progression. So, definitely GW2 > FF XIV in this aspect.
But, just like FF XIV, this game is very cooldown-heavy. Stealing has a 30-second cooldown. Stealth only lasts 2-3 seconds (
WTF?!), and only kicks in when certain abilities - that have cooldowns of their own - are used. So, let me just put this in bold-type for everyone:
I.FUCKING.HATE.COOLDOWNS! I would gladly have an ability that does very little damage/healing/etc. and not have a cooldown at all, than to have a super effective world-saving ability but has an
eternity and a half cooldown. I wanna use all my abilities, all the time, not using just some of them some of the time.
Here's the records I spun today:
Fanny - Self-Titled Debut
Tom Lehrer - That Was the Week That Was
Manuel Gottsching - Inventions for Electric Guitar
MondayPlayed some
FF XIV today, but just long enough to do the hunts & Pixie quests on my astro (skipped the roulettes, since I had just hit level 78 by hunts and quests alone), and calling it good after that. Oh, and also showing
white_wimmin a few quick primers on how monk and ninja - my 2 favorite DPSers in this game - work.
And for my
Guild Wars 2 session it was all thief. I spent the early part of the session just crafting stuff, trying to discover new recipes (in this game, most recpies aren't available until you discover them by manually combining 2 or mats together). After that, I set out to do some actual fighting, working on the storyline as well as just running around and killing shit. And eventually got to level 25, which is really quick considering I've only been playing a few days (crafting also increases your own level as well).

And here's the vinyl LPs I played this time around:
Roky Erickson - The Evil One
Butthole Surfers - Independent Worm Saloon
Herb Albert's Tijuana Brass - Whipped Cream & Other Delights
Sheila E - The Glamorous Life
The Music of Cosmos (T.V. show starring Carl Sagan)
The Shaggs - Philosophy of the World
And aaaalrighty! Callin' it a night. Been a good weekend overall.
<Take care.>, everybody. And thanks for watching/reading. And have yourselves a great day/night.

Talking about the paladin's Hallowed Ground - with a 6 minute cooldown - ability.
White_wimmin didn't know it at the time, but he hit the nail on the head when it comes to my hatred of cooldowns, especially long ones. A two-three minute cooldown? I could've got up and made myself a sandwich and came back and sat down by the time the cooldown was up. Hell, with the aforementioned Hallowed Ground cooldown I could've cooked up some riced broccoli & cauliflower (takes 5 minutes to cook, as they're bought frozen) and sat back down and started eating by the time Hallowed Ground was up again. Most of these cooldowns are unrealistically long! Anything longer than a minute - and even this I grudgingly concede - is too long.
And then there's the matter of abilities like ninja's Trick Attack and machinist's Wildfire, as well as the thief's Steal and warrior's Berserker Stance abilities in Guild Wars 2, where you have to pack in as much DPS as you can in as short a time as possible (Guild Wars 2 is especially bad about this, as most of these abilities only last a few seconds), after which you're just marking time doing busy work until the abilities come off cooldown again. Not my idea of fun.
And yes, I get why they exist: It allows for some tactical play, especially when in a group of other players. Then it allows all you Lilliputians to combine your efforts to bring down ol' Gulliver. Or it comes in handy for those OH SHIT! moments. But what about a solo guy like myself? What about the ones that aren't doing the high-end content, where more often than not we outgear/outlevel whatever it is we are fighting. A lot of my cooldowns just sit there and collect dust, occasionally using them for no other reason then, because they're there. As stated on yesterday's post, I'd rather use all my abilities all the time, not just some of my abilities some of the time. End rant (for now, at least).
