Vengeance and new meetings

Public
Journal, it's been an interesting past few days. Some of which impacts previous entries, but most of which is new.

So, let's pick up after the wedding. I met with Xel later at the company house. She then outlined what she couldn't talk about at the wedding. I suspect that it would've made a few people uncomfortable and besides it really wasn't for polite conversation.

So Xel and Zac, since their adventure in the Coethian Highlands earlier in the year, were able to track down most of the trail to Lili's previous assailant. It actually was pretty near where she was first attacked, according to Xel. So I theorized that it was taking shelter nearby or had left to hunt when we had first arrived. Xel seemed to agree with this assessment. So then we discussed what we'd do with it when we had it discovered. We boiled up two possible plans; either killing it then and there to have it cause no further problems or attempt to air lift it to a safer destination. Given data about said creature, Xel thinks that Azyz Lla may have been its home location before somehow coming to the surface. To prepare for that, I had pulled from the roster the S.S. Tantalus and S. S. Baron Red Wing for hauling duty.

But what we lacked was bodies for subduing the creature. We talked about where we could pull them from. Given time of week and day, I thought about approaching people that usually gather for Fight Night. I was hesitant to approach them given my lack of participation for months, but I knew that Allisian's warbot Aislinn (don't ask) had self-assigned to it in order to gather information about non-lethal combat. At least if she was there she could ask others on our behalf.

I contacted her via link pearl, informing her that we were looking around for assistance for this particular dilemma. I'm not sure if she did ask about or not, because when we reconnoitered at Falcon's head in Western Coethia, she was the only one present. But knowing what I know of her, she was likely the only one we needed.

Xel took us back to the scene of the original attack and we traced further back into the mountain range. Surprisingly, the weather held for us and that also allowed for the airships to keep a relatively stable location as we ventured. After awhile we came upon a cave opening. Xel informed us that this was the most likely location of where the beast hid. So she got out some rather rancid meat and told us to get into hiding locations for an ambush.

What stepped out of the cave was similar to chimeras that the allag had created but couldn't keep penned up, but not quite. Xel had made a reference that it could be a part voidsent and I could see why she suspected that. The creature was quadruped, muscular, and lion-like in the mane and the tail, but the head and face was lizard-like. I can honestly say that I've not seen anything like that.

I slowly summoned up my arcane strength as to not alert it to my presence. Aislinn brought out a long range rifle from wherever she keeps her arms, and Xel made ready to jump strike it. Having prepared so, I hurled a bolt of fire at it backed by Enochian Fury. Caught off-guard, it was struck right in the face. It thrashed about while Aislinn took aim and fired. Somehow it managed to see the shot in time, so rather than where it was supposed to go in the face, it shifted to have it hit the side. And Xel attacked with an aerial leap--but the creature must've sensed her. In midair it attacked her with a backleg kick, sending her back into the stone wall.

Given I caused the initial distraction, I leapt into the open and activated my wardings. Keeping myself stoked, I hurl another ball of fire at the things face, only for it to recover enough and vault right over me. That's where some preparation on Aislinn's part, and not to mention a good deal of probability programming I would think, comes in. Right as he lands, she opens up a shot of pure energy at it. It was about the size of a small house and the critter took the whole shot and flinging it into the side of the mountain.

When the three of us approached it, it somehow was still breathing but broken everywhere. We talked about it for a few moments and decided it was probably better to kill it. Aislinn took aim with a short range pistol to his skull and pulled the trigger. The skull shattered nicely but there was minimum of splatter. I arranged our airships to retrieve the carcass while it was still stable enough to transfer back to our labs.

That evening I dropped by Zac's place to deliver the news. Lili was already in bed and Zac couldn't stay up for very long. I briefly told him what had happened. He seemed relieved but what caught me off guard is that he wanted to sample the aether trail that would be leaking from the body. I remembered that one of his abilities allowed him to do that with some slightly less than reliable results. I let him know that before the beast fully dissipates he can take a crack at it.

Another note in the journal. I went to the Free Company house some time later after coming back from Gyr Abania region. There, much to my surprise, is Mrs Edea. She's been there for a few days and was looking quite relaxed. She informed me that she was ready to officially join but couldn't find any of the other officers. Slightly surprising, actually. So I bring her up to the records office (aka Saskia's admin room) and start going through folders. In the process I find an adult book. I remind myself of where exactly I'm at and put it back with a mental note to move it later.

I do find the enrollment binder and looked up her name. All the preliminary signatures are in place, including Saskia. All it needed was one more officers' name and it was done. I add mine to the list and hand her the completed paperwork. She looked overjoyed and thanked me. I advised her about permanent lodgings that she can buy and to look for the quartermaster regarding it.

One other interesting thing. With the All Saints' Wake festival happening, I decided to go out and get some paint for decorating. My adorable children, however, decided to break into them and decided to do tracings on the wall going up to the bedroom from the main floor. I laughed a little, but put the two of them into time-out while Lira and I discussed what should be done about it as well as removal of the prints. As the punishment goes, we decided to have them clean it up...or try to. They kept wandering away. We sighed, and decided to let it stay there for now. It kind of grew on me.
