I really dislike doing current content.
I have discovered as I am going through the end game 80 content is that I really don't like doing current stuff.
That is kind of a blanket statement so I should clarify. It's actually the DUNGEONS I have a problem with, NOT the 80 trials or raids or the EX stuff. I do NOT like running the high level dungeons which are run at the current max level, which obviously is 80 at the moment.
Why do I have a problem with them? Well I will tell you, it's simply, I do NOT like PEOPLE controlling the difficulty of the content I am running. Once again, let me clarify.
With trials, either normal or the Extreme version, the GAME controls the difficulty of the instance. the players port in and are at the mercy of the foe and their mechanics. The players don't influence this other than how efficiently they defeat the opponent.
8 and 24 man raids are the same way. The instance dictates the difficulty of the thing and the players deal with it the best way they can.
But dungeons......Dungeons are a different beast because of one thing....pulling.
In a dungeon, the PLAYERS can decide how difficult the various encounters are. A person can choose to pull small groups or gather up multiple groups of creatures to have a large number to fight.
Doing this VASTLY changes the difficulty of the dungeon, some would say for the better, some for the worse. Many people LIKE these large pulls for the challenge, but not ALL people DO. For some it's very overwhelming, especially in the high 80 dungeons where the creatures hit hard and people healing might not be able to keep up.
Some would just say get better or learn your job, adjust and all that, and I say.....no.
I happen to LIKE playing on easy mode a lot of the time. I don't want to have to WORK for my play, to be 'challenged', unless I KNOW the instance will be challenging, IE: 80 trials and raids, and the challenge is controlled by the GAME.
I don't want to be stressed by some leet gamer who finds the content boring, so they bump the difficulty as hard as they can artificially make it. Sure it might be a decent challenge for them, but for others it can just be too much.
Now there ARE times that I don't mind big pulls, mainly in lower level dungeons. These massive 80 dungeon pulls though are just TOO much at times, too stressful and are just NOT fun for me.
Yeah, yeah, I know, MMORPG and all, having to deal with other people and all that crap. This is why I know I can't do much about it other then try to control what instances I DO run.
Which is why I am not going to bother with expert roulette when I can finally access it, I know I will just be miserable if I do it. Leveling roulette I will just have it deal with it if I get higher stuff, but with a higher Ilevel it might not be that bad.
Yeah, I know some are thinking I am a loser for not wanting a challenge but I DO at times. But I am the one who wants to control WHEN I get that challenge, I don't want to be blindsided by those who want to make the thing as hard as it can be.
At least now there are tons of ways to get tomes so you can avoid dungeons all together. They are not the quickest but at least they are out there.
Try it as a dps maybe?
Isn't whm a dps... *holy*
When I do it, the gcd is for damaging spells only, and Lily heals for afflatus misery.
I think cooldown usage has a larger impact on difficulty than pull size, personally.
You're right Ronove, I COULD just do the expert roulette as a DPS and let some other poor sucker deal with the healing. Only problem with that are the waiting times.
Of course doing it with friends fixes that issue.
It's not bad advice and one I might just resort to in order to get the bonuses.
I DO love healing, but maybe NOT in 80 dungeon content, just lower stuff.
I like healing 4man content, but less so in larger groups. There is a difficulty to full party healing with controllers.
I feel like 80 dungeons are easier to heal then MSQ lower dungeons. Everyone is usually better geared and you have your full kits. I’m kinda torn tbh on this, I pull wall to wall on everything. If we die I slow down but that first pull is wall to wall.
But I also run most dungeons with my pocket healer and we are usually in chat talking. So she knows when I’m out of cd’s etc.
it'll be easier as you gear also anna!
gotta get them tomes to get the gear!
we gonna do eden soon? the gear is unlocked there, so its pretty easy to gear up these days!
It all starts with the notions of the tank:
1. I am a busy person, let’s be quick about it.
2. I pull, you heal, and you kill.
3. Oh, you can’t keep up with me? You must be bad.
4. Come on, it’s the easy dungeon.
I would usually ask nicely to pull not to many, it that doesn’t work? Oh well, I’ll have a few wipes, then chances are, the tank abandons the duty.
You know, unlike many that play, I LIKE it when I get low dungeons in the leveling roulettes. I don't mind not getting to use my fancy high level skills.
Low stuff is nice and easy relaxing exp/goodies. I really don't WANT to be 'challenged' in dungeons if I can help it other then the first time I run them for story content, I got trials/raids for that.
Do I REALLY want something I got to run over and over again to be hard ALL the time? I honestly rather it be the opposite and less taxing.
I know I am in the minority though in that way of thinking, thus the big pulls by many people.
But I DO have the power of choice, not to run expert roulette at all, to bow out of dungeons that I don't want to do in leveling, or to just suck it up and get it over with.
Of course, this mainly applies to healing said dungeons. As a DPS, it is mostly a non issue since big pulls don't really affect them as much other than getting the things killed efficiently so the tank is not overwhelmed.
I would disagree partially.
In most of the recent dungeons you cannot pull more than two groups of mobs. That's true for leveling and for level 80 dungeon. By playing all jobs I played all those dungeons as a healer too. And I found more challenging the leveling dungeon than the tier dungeon when the tank is pulling everything he/she can. And it is accentuated when the tank is bad (that happen more often in leveling dungeon than tier dungeon).
But it is just my opinion ^^
I don't know you but I main PLD! If you see me in game, feel free to reach out to me if you want to do roulettes! I will happily pull however you're most comfortable. :)
Yoru, while I agree with you, Anna is different from all other healers I have encountered, and likely finds different things difficult.
I have noticed that her movement is very erratic, especially when dodging aoes. Because of this, dungeons where trash cast aoes at the party such as Amaurot and Akademia are abnormally hard for her. She may also struggle with managing a large number of skills, as I have noticed her usage of ogcd's is low.
When I have been leveling healing jobs I have had some of the best tanks, ( use cool downs / has group awareness/ decent armor/ patient) and the others ..not so good with shit gear/ shit attitude/ rude af/ and I wouldn't piss in their mouth of their guts were on fire.
Try this Anna, focus that same arrogance you have for your writing to your healing and you'd be amazed at the results. Easy mode will be everything no matter what they through at you.
But to add.... Going with friends Anna is ALWAYS the more pleasurable way at it. Being blessed having Mahdi/ Amber/ Espy/ Panda/ Sig/ Rov/ Myself and Your other friends should shield you from that negative experience.
nope, i pull wall to wall :D
Hahah! I think Anna knows better than to think we aren't going to pull wall to wall Mahdi ;P
i wonder why she never asks me to tank a dungeon for her.../thinks
I did die stupidly as tank on my last expert roulette. The reason? while the mobs start dying, the healer forgot me AND I did forgot to use CDs.
Lolo you're right, the easiness of a run is more about the quality of the players than the number of mobs.
I wanted to add to this. I did the last MSQ dungeon yesterday, the castle, and I LOVED it. Do you know why?
It's because I went with friends and they did SMALL pulls for me, allowing me to not be rushed or stressed and enjoy the instance. And no, I did not die at all, though Gran DID for NOT telling me how hard the King hits.
And it is a BEAUTIFUL dungeon too, honestly, my favorite one now, too bad it's 80 and I won't see it unless I do expert.
Thanks Arias, nice to see there ARE considerate tanks out there. ;-)
LOLO! since WHEN am I arrogant in my writing? In my rants? Ok.....MAYBE a little. ;p
It's a LOT easier to do that when you are by yourself writing up stuff.
Yeah, I know VERY well you tanks will do it JUST to hear me bitch that you are DOING it! UGH!
Ha, it's because you are on the OTHER side of the country silly, you're not on when I am! ;p And you have tanked for me before!
don't tell her to go with Panda. That won't help, I pull wall to wall everytime. I had divorce my last in game wife cause she couldn't heal wall to wall pulls. I'm toxic af...

I think you're misunderstanding why people do wall to wall pulls. It's not because they want a challenge, it's because it's faster. Doing single pulls quite literally doubles the time it takes to clear a dungeon, and considering that dungeons are the easiest content in the game (including level cap dungeons) it's easy to get sick of dungeons when you've done it dozens of times. You'll find that healing large pulls will become more manageable once you're more experienced and get geared.

Hopefully I'm not coming across as an elitist. To add on to what I meant by people wall pulling "not because they want a challenge" it makes things easier in less obvious ways. Things die faster which ultimately means fewer button presses for all four party members. Dungeons get harder the longer it takes because people often get tired and start playing sloppily. It also sets a good pace for mitigation to come back up to make it a bit easier for healers in the long run- a reasonable trade off.
Yes Lily I don't disagree with you, big pulling can and does make the dungeons faster, IF the group can HANDLE it. Of course this depends on 2 factors, the tank and the healer.
If both are good then it is a breeze. If one or both are bad then there will be issues and maybe even wipes. If that is a possibility, then maybe smaller pulls are a better and safer bet.
I personally prefer big pulling due to it just feeling nicer overall as a whm main I have a lot of variation on what I can choose to do. Mitigate "Spam holy" Single target heal aoe heal not sure about you folks but I wouldn't mind harder dungeons as long as they're tuned right not too sluggish and not too weak. plenty of zergasarus rexes out there so something that you can do when you're capped on phantas for the week or its not a raid night with your friends and FC people/
