Modern Girl: Call me, Maybe? Chapter 4 part 2

Public
Part 2:

With some trepidation, Annabel once more walked over to the tattered book. Yeah, seeing it again did NOT make her decision to bid on the piece of trash any easier. Ugh, WHAT am I DOING? God, my life just keeps getting worse and worse the longer this damn bug is with me. Looking around the display, Annabel spotted the information on this particular book used for the bidding process. Taking out her phone, she took a quick snapshot of it as well as of the book itself just in case she needed to identify it later for some stupid reason or another. If anything, she might have to retrieve it from the garbage in case anyone accidentally threw it away. If THAT ever happens, my life will have TRULY gone to shit, she thought.

That done, the pretty blonde scanned the hall for some idea where to go to actually register her bid. She huffed in annoyance as she came up empty.

"What, confused again?" Selene whispered. "You really don't know much, do you?"

"NOT my 'arena' bug," Annabel hissed back. "Put me in a party or club and I would dazzle the wings off you. This place, not so much."

"Well go ask your sister then," Selene said a matter of factly, "she knows all about this place."

Annabel was adamant in her response. "No way, as I told you before, I am NOT going to have her ask a million questions on why I want to bid on a book."

"Ugh, tell her you like the pictures, it's not like you ACTUALLY read the words anyway."

"I do TOO.......sometimes, I need to know what the pictures mean."

"I rest my case." Selene knew she could go around for hours arguing with this ditzy Hyur; now was not the time. "Well then, find someone else to ask, surely SOMEONE knows what the hell you need to do."

Annabel wanted to say something but thought better of it and just sighed in response. "Fine," she looked around then brightened with an idea. "I know, I'll go back to the entrance; I bet the people there know all about this place."

"Good, because I'm sick of being stuck with the one person who knows NOTHING about it."

"Suck it Selene"

"Suck it?" Selene looked confused; "what does that even mean?"

"It.....well...." Annabel sighed again, the argumentative momentum lost "never mind".....

Going to the reception area in the front turned out to have been a good idea. They patiently explained to Annabel how the whole bidding process worked. It turned out that the whole process was digital and could be done from her phone by going to the convention's bidding website. While the woman at the desk was explaining all of this, Annabel could tell that she was trying very hard not to look shocked that Annabel, who obviously did not belong here, wanted to ACTUALLY bid on one of their books.

Thanking the woman for the information, Annabel took advantage of being by the doors to leave the hall and get some peace and quiet. It did not take her long to find a bench where she sat to rest her feet. Soon the fashionable heels were off and Annabel flexed her stockinged soles as she browsed to the web address she was given.

"Honestly", the miffed Blonde said as she typed quickly, "WHY are people so surprised that I MIGHT want to bid on a book? Not all blondes are dumb you know."

"Do you REALLY want me to answer that oh dizzy Blonde," Selene said with some amusement. "Because it's a really easy answer."

"NO," Annabel said, perhaps a little too forcefully. Selene gave a small pout in response, which Annabel could not see from her vantage point. "Boy, you're no fun." She peered down; "what are you doing with that thing anyway?"

"What do you think," the busy blonde said annoyed, "trying to bid on that piece of trash that you sooooo insisted that I have." Reaching the page, Annabel scanned the instructions, then brought up the picture she had taken of the item's sign taking note of the auction number. Not being too good at remembering things, she had to flip back and forth a few times to enter it into the search bar. Selene looked on in amusement.

"Um, HOW many times are you going to keep doing that? It's only," she paused a moment, counting in her head, "fifteen of those strange characters, I could remember that in my sleep."

"Well next time I'll have YOU remember them then, fifteen is a LOT of stuff Bug. I don't know WHY they made it so long....there, finally...and hit the button..."

Annabel's manicured finger hit the search button and soon the item in question popped up on her phone's small screen. She breathed a sigh of relief that she would not have to retype all that in again. Gazing at the picture of the item, she mused; "ugh, what am I THINKING? Are you SURE we need this thing Selene?"

Selene looked down from her perch at the picture. "As I told you before, yes Annabel dear if you want to actually learn how to use that book and NOT look like an idiot doing it. Then again, from what I've seen, how could you not?"

"How could you not," Annabel mimicked in a high voice. "Set a low bar for me, haven't you?"

Selene gave a mirthful giggle. "If it was any lower honey it would be scraping the ground."

"Ooooooo, go to hell bug."

"Already there Dear ditzy one", Selene said still giggling.

"Likewise", Annabel said, pissed off that she was continuing to be stuck in this mess with seemingly no way out. "Ugh, I don't even know what to even BID on this stupid thing."

"Well don't ask me," the little fairy said; "I have NO idea what you use here for money. I only know gil, and I haven't seen any of that around here. Why don't you try a thousand."

"A THOUSAND dollars, for THAT?" Annabel looked horrified. "Honey I might be from a rich family, but there is no WAY I am paying THAT much for that piece of crap." She thought for a moment then started typing. "I'll put $10 with a limit of $100. If it gets near that I will be pissed." She finished typing and hit the send button. "There, $100 wasted, I hate spending money on stupid things."

"Then explain all those outfits and things in your closet?"

Annoyed, Annabel pointed a finger up to her hair. "DON'T go there Bug! I NEED those for well,..... MANY reasons. I gotta look my best, always."

Annoyed herself, Selene said; "Will you STOP calling me a 'bug, I am a FAIRY you ditz, get it RIGHT! UGH, I hope that book teaches you how to read yours so you can send me AWAY!.......Oh shit......"

"What?" Annabel asked, curious despite herself and knowing she would regret the answer.

"I just realized, I have to rely on you to actually READ the thing, I'm doomed, aren't I?"

"Pretty much Fairy, pretty much."

Selene's wings drooped......"Oh Fuck me".......

The bidding done, Annabel slipped on her heels and made her way back to the convention. From her watch she saw she had been gone for awhile and wondered what mood Adora was going to be in. Well, maybe she would not notice if the negotiating with Miss Rhodes had taken a while. Speaking of THAT, Annabel did wonder what book Aria had settled on. If it was the grimoire, Annabel was royally fucked.

Her family's booth soon came into sight with her sister still there at the helm. Arianna was nowhere to be seen though, which left Annabel a little anxious. Up in her hair, Selene could also feel the young blonde's anxiety and she wondered herself if her situation just became doubly hard. Sometimes Fate could be a real bitch, and getting stuck with Annabel was definitely one of THOSE times. How long DID Hyurs live anyway? Selene knew Annabel was still pretty young from the look of her, so it could be a LONG time if she went that route to get free.....damn it.

Annabel approached her sister and waved, smiling, "I'm back, hope you didn't miss me too much."

Adora gave a frown. "What I did NOT miss Annabel is how much time you took, did I not say twenty minutes?"

"Um, did you? Well, there was just soooo much to see here, you know, all these FASCINATING books, and I knew you were so busy with Miss Rhodes, so I just figured...."

"Uh huh....books...Annabel, I doubt you even looked at any of them much less actually tried to bid on one." Adora gave an exasperated sigh and said, "never mind, what's done is done, just stick around and finish your task; there's only an hour left."

"STILL?" Annabel groaned, which caused Adora to frown even more severely. "Honestly Annabel, sometimes I wonder how we are even related, one hour is NOT going to kill you."

Annabel winced at the reprimand. Selene, for her part, fought hard not to giggle at the sisterly exchange. "Fine", the younger woman relented, "but you OWE me one Adora and I WILL collect one of these days. Oh by the way", Annabel said changing the subject, "did Aria....er Miss Rhodes actually buy anything?"

"Why yes she did." Adora pointed to the display where one of the display areas was now empty. Sure enough, a book was sold, wait, was it.......Annabel peered more intently, damn it, all those silly books looked the same to her from far away. No, there it was. She breathed a sigh of relief.

"Yes", Adora continued, "it seems your little antics steered her to a different book than what she was originally contemplating. I don't know WHY you did it, but I guess it doesn't really matter, she bought one. Now enough questions, time to get back to the task at hand; and Annabel, TRY to look like you are enjoying yourself."

With that, Adora left Annabel to go do other things. The young woman watched her go, sticking out her tongue in the process at Adora's back. "Enjoy myself, who is SHE kidding? Ugh, at least the book is still here. Ok, time to 'look pretty', again, bleh."

At that moment Annabel's phone dinged that a message had come in. The ding repeated itself again and again till finally it stopped. Curious, Annabel took it out of her bag to look.

"What the hell", she exclaimed, "are you kidding me? Someone is bidding on that book!"

Annabel Ashcroft

Faerie [Aether]

I'm glad I was able to get this out before my sub expired. I don't think I am going to resub this time. I have not played the game in almost a week due to being both really busy in RL and just really bored with doing the same stuff over and over.

Even the lodestone has been so dead lately with little interesting to comment on. So, yeah, good time to save money and not play right now.

But I'll be back, just don't know when. Since housing timer is turned off, I don't need to worry about it

Siglinde Skysworn

Sargatanas [Aether]

Anna always brags to Selene that she is super cool in clubs and parties and whatnot. It would be hilarious if she actually does end up in one and turns out to be a huge ditz there too. ;)

And now.... who is the mystery bidder on the magic grimore?!

Bayonetta Lakill

Seraph [Dynamis]

I think i know (hope) where this is heading πŸ₯°
