The unexpected difficulty of roulettes

Public

Yesterday I want into a few roulettes to cap the revelation tomes. I was hoping for easy ones but unfortunately that was NOT the case and it was a BIT of an ordeal to do them.

The first one was the alliance roulette, you know, 24 man. I ended up getting the Lighthouse, which is the 2nd of the Stormblood 24 man trio. I had not been in the thing for a while and from the performance of the rest of the group, it seems many were in the same boat. I want in as White Mage and it was a damn good thing I did.

Honestly, I have not worked sooooo hard at healing a non hard instance in FF14 in a VERY long time. The healing, good LORD, the HEALING I had to do! :O That first boss with the water, sooooo much damage, and it was serious work keeping people alive. I myself ended up on the receiving end of that damn water gusher twice, and it was only being able to instant heal what kept my ass alive with only a sliver of health left. ;p
Sure, a few still died, but I was able to keep most up until the boss died; and I was BEAT after I did it.

Too bad that was just the beginning though.

Second boss was even WORSE damage wise,. That fire, oh the FIRE! People were not positioning themselves properly and getting whopped over and over. I don't know, there many have been many newer people or something, all I know that any thoughts of trying to DPS instead of heal were laughable with the pressure of keeping everyone up to do their job. I did die once there myself to bad positioning, but I was raised fast enough. Eventually he fell too and we moved on, the poor healers VERY tired!

Next was the WORST of the bosses, Mr. math loving robot! :O God I hate him soooooo much! All 3 groups were losing people to him like crazy, being in the wrong places and all. Plus the stupid math did NOT help! Luckily though, I did not die to the math, so was able to get people healed up when they screwed it up. I DID die to the AOE's later though, as did a lot of other people. In fact, by the end, over half the party was dead by the time the robot finally went down.

Funny thing is, the last boss actually did not give us too much trouble. He is actually pretty repetitious with not many attacks, so it was easy to get used to him and position correctly. He went down without much fuss and the hell was FINALLY over.

And of COURSE I only got one comm for keeping their asses up. (well, except for the times I was dead ;p)

The next roulette was equally a pain. The was the trial for the Moon Primal, Castrum Fluminis.

In normal mode, she is usually not too bad. You do the mechanics, whittle her down, and she eventually dies. But THIS time it was a comedy of errors and a ROYAL pain to do!

Once again we had new people to this, which made me kind of groan. That meant they did not know what to do with the moon phases and would probably die to them. I DID tell them, go to opposite moon, before it started, but I don't think they took my advice since death was ALL over the place!

Right off I stupidly died myself because of poor positioning near the tank and getting hit. Oops!, BAD me! ;p Oh I was PISSED with myself for such a stupid mistake, but I was up fast enough and recovered. The fight was fine until she transformed and went into moon phases, then it all went to crap so to speak.

Yeah, people panicked, died, got raised, and died some MORE! Having to avoid mechanics while doing the phases confused people, and many ended up in poor positions which killed them. It got much worse after the phases and when the fans and other stuff started coming out faster and faster. Because of the deaths it was taking a LONG time to kill her and harder to keep up with people dying. Oh I tried my best to keep them healed up, but one can only do SO much when people keep getting hit by crap. Eventually with too many dead, I got targeted, died, and it was a wipe soon after that.

The second attempt surprisingly went a lot smoother; I think people were finally more used to her stuff after going through it so much. There were still some deaths, but the fight was a LOT cleaner and we were able to eventually beat het. I actually got a decent amount of comms that time.

So there you go, the roulette hell of yesterday. It just goes to show you that, even though you hope for an easy time of it, you NEVER know the world of pain you are about to walk into. ;-)
