All Aboard the NM TRAIN!
There aren't any practice parties around early in the day (US time) so I did some last minute Eureka before reset! I was actually soloing for a bit to do my challenge log when I saw a NM spawn, and decided to run over to join. Then another spawned, and people talked about spawning another, so somehow I got swept up by the NM train, hahaha.
Killing specific monsters (sometimes under particular weather conditions or at certain times) encourages NM's to spawn, so players will go around the map in a large group to kill monsters and spawn every NM available. This is called the NM train. NM's are always surrounded by enemies of higher level than the NM itself, so getting there takes some careful movement and it's best done in a party. That said, as a tank I had cooldowns and the ultimate cheating tool Hallowed Ground, so I was really quite safe. I only died a few times when I tried fighting higher level adds that were attacking my party.
One person kept track of which NM's can be spawned. They directed us around and told us what monsters to kill. I actually had more fun than I did last time, although I didn't get to tank anything as I was still low level.
I think I understand more clearly the design behind Eureka now. At least in theory, you would have players working to prep monsters, then joining to kill the NM, sneaking past a gauntlet of dangerous monsters to do so, all against a background of people doing challenge logs. And in the earliest days following a release, players would be exploring and discovering how to spawn each NM. It sounds like they tried to find a way to make oldschool monster grinding more cooperative, which is actually an interesting idea. Killing higher level NM's than you gives exp, while lower levels give little exp but award Anemos crystals. Is this the devs' way of encouraging high and low level players to work together?
Of course, annoying things still happen. I saw people deliberately pulling adds into the NM fate, probably to encourage other players to kill them for exp or challenge log. It made the battles a little more chaotic than they needed to be.
I left when the train went to spawn Pazuzu, as I know that is the highest level NM and I won't be able to do much. In the end I got from level 8 to 13 in one lockout, unlocked the eastern aetheryte and got the 3rd magicite. I dunno what to spend my crystals on yet, but I'm gonna try to finish Anemos soon!
Tank from Hell had fun in Eureka, YAY! ;p
Sounds like you really jumped levels, only 4 more till you can ride!
Smart thing to avoid Paz, you would have been slaughtered and got hardly anything for it at your level. In fact, right now avoid any NM that is in a cave. It's death for you and your experience will be crap.
As for crystals, either build your weapon up or just hold them for later. You can level up without doing any weapon stuff, just need to complete the story in each location.
Ah yes, wife and I were there all last night. Scored 2 of the Zuzu feathers we needed just before midnight eastern just before our timers ran out. I had so many crystals I was able to get my Dragoon Animos weapon on Keddera AND get all my armor to +1.
Once you get your mount in Eureka, it becomes a breeze to just ride the train all over and rake in the crystals.
Watch out for Fafnir's tail attack though, it's a doozy. ;)
Tifka, remember, unless you want the armor glamour don't bother with upgrading the Anemos armor. The Pyros armor has NOTHING to do with it.
Glad to know that Annabel! Stay clear of the caves... I'm really looking forward to getting my mount back, haha.
I really like the atmosphere of the train, it's like everyone going on a giant picnic. Although it's only fun if the monsters you kill to spawn are low enough level that I can help out... leeching isn't very interesting!
Ahh Tifka I get it, it's one of those jerks with tail cone attacks! Thanks for the tip.
Even though the theme of Eureka is to explore a dangerous land on foot, and I can see why they disabled mounts even though it doesn't make a whole lot of story sense, I won't deny I'll be glad to be able to ride around again!
In the other instances, especially Pyros, having a mount is still REALLY dangerous in places. Pyros has more high level areas than any of the other instances with things that will one or two shot you if you are not careful.
And wait till you are so high, you don't feel like helping because things die so fast, it's no challenge. ;p
The only time things in Anemos are pulled one at a time because of possible instant death from multiples is where Paz is.
I should really give it a go...after my last dog...maybe x) nice1 Sig!! X)
Oooh, thanks for the tips Annabel. Pyros still feels like a long way away. I need to get through Pagos first, and I remember a lot of salt over that one.
Thanks Mahdi and Felsea! (And good luck dog farming Felsea, haha.)
