Hell Tank vs The Dancing Plague EX!
After a few days rest after finishing MSQ (and some hiccups involving connection problems over the weekend and finding out I needed better gear to beat the SS dummy), I'm ready to challenge the new extreme primals!
Titania feels a bit like Orbonne monastery in that the mechanics are individually simple, but if you mess them up, they punish you harshly. Guides are helpful but really do not tell the whole story! At first, looking at guides, I thought Phantom Rune and the lightning tether would give me difficulties. They gave me O10S in/out and hot tail flashbacks. But I was able to do them perfectly after a few tries.
On the other hand, of the mechanics in the early phases, the one that gave me the most trouble was (don't laugh) Frost Rune. I thought to myself, it's almost the same mechanic as Castrum Fluminis fans and I can do that without error easily, this should be no trouble... and then I ran all around and died like a doofus. Lol.
It was shocking to get destroyed by some 4 year old mechanic from Shiva normal
mode. It makes you think "wait, can I really do this?!" But as with all things, practice makes perfect and eventually I could do it. For me, what helped is to point the camera straight downwards at the ground, which lets me see circles even if they start behind me. Identify the direction (it can be clockwise or counterclockwise), stand in the location of the last circle, then move back into the center.
Additionally, the ice circles seem to hit a area very slightly larger than their telegraph shows. In the left image I was not hit by the center circle. In the right image I was hit by the center circle.
But the real challenge is the add phase. Every single time, something would go wrong in the big adds phase - someone would die, someone would stack in the wrong place or get knocked off the platform, and once I even ran off the platform myself trying to break my tether. Lol. Looking at the number of parties that say 'add phase progression', it seems this is also an obstacle for most players. I already use cooldowns on myself and intervention cotank for the small adds' tankbuster, Divine veil once big adds appear and use passage of arms for the first stack marker. If anyone has suggestions for what else I can do, I would love to hear them.
One thing I am not doing perfectly yet is, after tentacle knockbacks, another combo of stack marker + 2 aoe puddles appears. I have to be ready to look for the stack marker once the tentacles resolve.
All my parties used the "tank/healers north, dps south" strategy. It seems melee dps are afraid to cross the blue puddle to go south when the tentacle knockbacks come and there is always one who stays north and kills a tank or healer with the chains.
After about 3 hours of practice, I was able to do all my mechanics properly, including the tentacle knockbacks in add phase and the tethers. After the add phase are only repeats and simple combos of old mechanics. If we can just get past adds, I know for sure we can do the mechanics, leaving DPS as the only obstacle. My parties are starting the add phase with Titania at 52%-55% and finishing the small adds with her power at 40%-43%.
I really want to clear this. Already the raiders are saying how this is an easy fight and the dps check is lenient. If I cannot clear Titania and Innocence, I am not qualified at all to enter Savage when it releases in 3 weeks time. I must prove my worth before I can step into Savage once more.
I will take a break and finish upgrading my left side gear, then it's back to more learning parties. I will clear no matter what!
Congrats on your clear Yoko! And thanks for the encouragement. I will clear this even if it takes 100 pulls!
If it takes you 100: how many would it take ME! ;p
Doesn't matter, Anna! 100, 200, 500, if you cleared you cleared. Lol.
Objectively, clearing a videogame boss may not be an achievement that matters in the real world, but in challenging ourselves we conquer very real obstacles of doubt, insecurity, fear and indolence. And those victories are real and matter!
Phhhht, like I would do 100 anything, LAZY Blonde here! ;p
The only hard thing I really ever made a effort on was getting to the end of BA, and that was only because I really liked Eureka and wanted to say I truly finished it.
Move to Aether Sig... just saying MOVE TO AETHER!!!!!!!
Starting add phase at 52-55% is horrific. Should be more like 42-48 max. And small add phase you should be below 40% going into big adds. I have started big add's at 28 on her power gauge.
Keep pushing hard, you may want to try clear for one group so you can get some better parties. Or move to Aether and I'll take you in and get the clear :)
Well Annabel you say that, but I am sure you are willing to grind out something if it gives stuff you really like. If this Ex dropped a really cute WHM cane or a beautiful RAINBOW unicorn mount I bet you would play it, ahaha.
Note to self: get Titania cane and flaunt it in front of Annabel!
Lol panda! I can't, all of aether is congested.
42% before add phase?! That's bad news, it means my party dps is up to 22% less than expected. I have to improve my dps greatly. I am already making small corrections like continuing to attack the boss while invulning 3 tethers (not standing in Narnia like in the pic above, that's a terrible waste).
I'm very grateful for your offer (you haven't even seen me play yet, maybe I will be a cringey noob?!) and it would be an honor to play with you. But I know I cannot come running to you whenever I need a clear. I must be able to thrive in PF alone, and if this is to be a challenge to prove I am ready for Savage, then I must beat it myself!
I will definitely keep pushing hard for the clear. Thanks for the encouragement!!
I had a lot of fun in a blind run party (as they called it on PF) on Innocence Ex. I am glad that I find a group that no on rage on why you didn't watch a vid. We discuss after each pull and slowly try to figure out the mechanics. We were dying left right and centre. I think the SMN and I were rezzing people while the healers' MP were running dry.
We went for two lockout and get the boss down to 30% before the healer dc. We didn't get it clear, but it was a lot of fun.
Yeah all of Aether is congested... I'm sure it will lift soon enough. Besides despite my salty tone I actually do a ton of teaching. Everyone starts somewhere and I'm still scrub level most of the time. I have my moments though. My FC is a raid teaching FC. Not designed for the elite, but for those wanting to become elite. :) MOVE TO AETHER :P
Damn you Hell Tank, you better NOT DO THAT! Who knows when I will even GET to the fairy Queen! You know, WRITING for YOUR enjoyment!
Oh who am I kidding, she sooooo will!
You think you SOOOO know me, I would NOT grind ALL that for a rainbow Unicorn mount!
I would have people CARRY me SILLY and just be along for the ride! ;p
you know Sig dear, I just realized something.
You are a fan and you AREN'T following me? :O
You know if you do, you will know when I post something new and not miss it. ;-)
Well done Sigurd! I am glad you had fun.
I really respect people with the ability to learn blind. You must be intelligent, not just good at video games. However I must say that I am not yet at the level of blind learning yet. Trials are all a puzzle of figuring out where the game wants you to stand, and I always feel dumb when I cannot figure out puzzles. For someone like me, even knowing the strategy, clearing is still an obstacle. I am content looking at guides to prepare myself beforehand.
Panda: Well I don't have anything tying me down to Primal except my cottage (and that's not a big deal). And Primal always seems so quiet and antisocial. Maybe I should consider moving after all.
Annabel: How do I follow you? I never found that feature.
You know that's a good point, I missed a lot of posts from my favorite Lodestone people when I was sick.
Yes I got you now... come to Aether when it unlocks :)
