Eidolon- Path to Darkness Part 4

Public
"You want me to agree to something while not knowing what it is you ask for?"

"What choice do you have cat?"

"Plenty! Maybe we should just go to Cid and see if we can power up the portal at the Crystal Tower again."

Krohman stood his ground against Denz whom he felt was asking to much already.

"You came to Me cat. You already know That will not be possible. So why argue further?"

"Because I can not just make a deal when I don't have the details of it. That is asking far to much."

"If I assure you it will not affect you, nor your family or the outcome of their lives, will that help?"

"Not entirely no. Why can you not inform us here and now?"

Denz glared up at Krohman before sighing and turning away from the miqo'te. He grasped the pipe in his hand and a new pinch of weed, placing it gently in the pipe opening as he flickered it to smoke for a moment.

"I can tell you, no one will be harmed. Nothing bad shall happen. This is my price and you will take it or leave."

"You would leave her to the dark realm then?"

"My dear boy, I would not hesitate to decapitate her if it was fated. In assisting you, I am doing more then I should."

Lowering his ears, Krohman now knew the true face of Denz. A man whom may have helped often, but did so to maintain proper balance and nothing more. Perhaps he was wrong, and perhaps Denz past motives were meant to save lives. Something however now seemed to keep the old hermit at ends. In the end, Krohman knew he was right. If Skan could not open a portal alone, they would be unable to assist Esper.

Mahdi seemed unphased by the conversation, sighing to himself as he glared to the quiet miqo'te and lalafell.

"I agree. So let's get this done. Now whatever happens, she can be mad at me and not you."

He stated toward Krohman and Denz whom both turned toward him while Skan remained with his back against a wood door.

"Before we go, I suppose I should be the one to warn you.."

Skan started before Denz interupted him, finishing what he was going to state.

"No portal back."

That alarmed Krohman and Mahdi instantly, as they stared toward each other.

"Once you go in, you will need to find a new means to get back. And, though you are all of a rather.. darker nature, you two shall still draw a lot of attention from the voidsent. What you face will not be easily overcome. To top all things, you've no idea if she is even still alive."

Skan raised an eyebrow toward Denz, whom he knew likely did know.

"He has a valid point. Though she is powerful, she is nothing compared to those within the dark world. Look to that of Diabolos if you need further example. Their are also much worse things then death. None of which are in short supply in such a realm. The danger is rather high for the bounty. So, the choice is now upon you two, if you would like to go or not.... Needless to say, it is why I felt best to keep our little gang small. With limited means of return... we may never see the light of day here again."

Knowing such now, Krohman seemed hesitant to act. Though it might seem selfish, he did not wish to leave his newborn daughter with no father. But to turn his back on his friend, that would forever haunt him as well.

"We're going."

Krohman stated, keeping his mind upon his kitten and wife. He grasped his linkpearl and walked out of the hut before sending Shtola a call. She answered, sounding tired as she yawned from the other side.

"Krohman? Is everything okay?"

"Yeah, everything is fine."

He hesitated, knowing what he was about to say would likely shatter her.

"We are heading to save Esper. And I might not make it back. I'm afraid. I don't want to leave you alone, nor our child. But-"

She quickly interupted him giving him a clear order to consider forever more.

"You have no choice Krohman. You will be home by the tonight. Or I'll come after you. No realm can save you from My wrath.... nor my love."

He grinned to himself, listening in the background to his daughter purring near by.

"That's an order Blacksmith."

Again he grinned baring his fangs as he turned back to the hermits door.

"Yes ma'am!"

"I love you."

"And I you."

He stated as she cut the connection, knowing he would not. Placing the pearl back to his pocket, he walked back in to see Skan and Denz summoning a portal open.

"That was quick."

Krohman stated as he watched the portal begin to stabilize.

"Time is wasting. You might not be aware of just how much."

Denz stated as he waved his staff a bit and released much of his energy into the portal which finally stabilized.

"Go now. I will hold the portal open, but remember, the rest is up to you. I'm sure Scarlette has some ideas herself."

Krohman and Mahdi nodded toward the old hermit lalafell before jumping into the portal. Skan walked to the front of the portal and released his body to the floor, remaining in his ascian form.

"Poor girl... I hope she is okay."

Skan stated as he looked to Denz, seeking some sort of hint.

"You know just as well as I, she has gone through a lot. No telling how she is till you find her."

He adjusted his staff and powered the portal once more, keeping it open.

"I expect to see you all in a few moments. If not, then, after an hour, I'll know you failed and died."

"Reassurance, I see why Esper always liked you the way she did."

Skan stated as he finally walked through the portal. It closed swiftly behind him as Denz adjusted his glasses and walked slowly back to his chair. The old hermit seemed a bit tired now, knowing a portal of such means would be taxing to any whom were not use to using it. As he sat down, he leaned back and shut his eyes, quickly drifting to sleep.

"Stupid children."

He said as he began to snore aloud.

The three men fell from the eternal abyss in the sky. Falling for several moments before noticing a mass of land within the realm of darkness. Skan quickly placed an aura around Mahdi and Krohman, allowing them both to float slowly toward the isle, along side himself. Upon landing, the two quickly began to investigate the isle while Skan merely floated past them, looking for an aura left behind by Scarlette.

"Interesting spot. What is this place?"

Krohman asked while Mahdi crossed his arms, looking upon a piece of metal on the isle side.

"The Seventh hell might suffice as a proper guess. However.."

Mahdi placed his armored hand upon the metal fragment and wiped away a small amount of dust covering it. His eyebrow raised as he noticed a familiar symbol upon its side. He was not sure if he should mention it or not before standing up and taking a look around the area.

"Well... That makes things a bit more simple I suppose."

"What?"

Krohman asked, as he walked near the son of Odin looking to see what he did.

"We must be in Ishgard. Or... what's left of it I guess."

"What makes you think that? This is the world of darkness is it not?"

Skan kept his mouth shut, figuring Mahdi had already had things in hand, instead he focused upon finding Scarlettes aetherial trail, which was still difficult to pin point.

"This may be the world of darkness, but it appears to be Our world in darkness."

Mahdi pointed to the symbol of Ishgard, it's high houses labeled upon the side of the metal fragment. Krohman noticed it was only upon one small part of the fragment and walked over, dusting it off a bit to see more symbols from the eorzean alliance.

"Not Ishgard, but you are correct. Where ever we are, their was a battle of sorts and they all must have lost."

Skan finally stopped trying to find Scarlettes aether, realizing their were plenty of reasons he might not be able to find her. He glanced to the other two sighing.

"Yes, This is Eorzea. Consider the facts as you see them, without your hard efforts your people would have died off long ago."

He knelt down and grasped the dirt, allowing it to blow in the wind through his gloves.

"I can not sense her. Much of this place has become desolate and hungry for aether. It may simply be that her path was consumed over time."

"Over time? She has only been missing for a day."

Krohman suggested as he looked to the ascian in confusion. Skan glanced toward them and shook his head.

"I see, you are not aware.-"

Skan glared around him for a moment as several howls began to echo around them.

"What the hell is that?"

Mahdi asked as he held his right hand out and summoned Zantetsuken.

"That would be the wildlife. Voidsent that have become rapid savages, seeking any light and aether they can to devour."

Skan glared toward Krohman and Mahdi knowing them to be the targets.

"We best hurry. It is likely she was captured and taken to the ascian stronghold. If not.. then we know-"

He stopped as he began to look around in the distance to see the darkness was moving in a massive wave. Squinting, he could quickly tell it was a massive wave of voidsent.

"Scratch that, get ready to fight."

Krohman placed his hand upon the hilt of his katana looking around and finally seeing what Skan did.

"We're completely surrounded."

"Yes. We can hope that they will be only one wave.. But realistically-"

"Fun."

Mahdi stated as he summoned forth Skjoldr, Odins shield. The voidsent which now appeared to be rabid imps and human husks were quickly upon them. Krohman slashed a few down instantly as Mahdi smashed his blade to the ground causing a full batch of them to dissipate. Skan held his hand up and cast a dark wormhole over them, quickly consuming several more as another wave began upon them.

"How long can we keep this up?"

Krohman asked as he slashed threw more.

"Not the right question."

Skan stated.

"How long before they consume you both at this point."

The three braced themselves for the next wave and continued to slash through them as fast as possible. Skan released as many bursts of magic as he could while Krohman slashed any that got near him. Mahdi quickly Cast Shin Zantetsuken, killing an entire wave of voidsent to reveal much more on the way.
