Kura- Origins #4

Public
Traversing into the snow naked did not last long. A mere few moments of the cold weather finally caught up with me and forced me to the ground, tired and weak. As I fell to the snow, I tried once more to return to my home point. Unsure of my success, I passed out before the spell could likely go off.

"Blankets! Bring her inside. Hurry!"

"Huh?" I opened my eyes, which was a difficult task as a man quickly grasped me around my body, thrusting me up in his arms.

Everything was blurry within my vision. I could see the mans teal hair only and a blurry face whom seemed to be smiling. His voice seemed familiar and I smiled as I shut my eyes, resting my head against his chest.

"Haurchefant." I stated, resting comfortably in his arms.

"Welcome home Kura." He stated to me silently as he took me inside to the infirmary of Camp Dragonhead.

Several days passed with me in deep slumber. My mind filled with strange visions I had never known before. Ancient in origin, and almost familiar, as if memories. Though clearly not belonging to me, there was much I saw, and would not remember by the time I woke up. With a brief sigh of relief, I realized where I was.

Glancing down to my left arm which was in a sling. It appeared a healer had taken care of the wound, leaving a mere scar to remind me of it. The pain however, had not faded by much. Likely it would take longer for the bone to fully heal inside. To my right, I noticed a younger elezen man sitting beside me with a book. He glanced up, smiling at me as he stood up. It was the youngest of the brothers of house Fortemp, Emmanellain. His youthful face seemed both overjoyed and relieved at my awakening.

"I had wondered when you would awaken, if at all. You have been asleep for a week!" He exclaimed with excitement as he quickly walked to the doorway. Stopping, he turned himself, slightly excited as to explain himself.

"Let me go get my brother. He will explain more to help you with getting caught up." Rushing away, I tilted my head in confusion as I glanced around the infirmary room, which was poorly lite. Within moments following, Haurchefant made his way into the infirmary smiling still as he welcomed me back in delight.

"We thought you dead. I tried to search for you but, we did not have any clue where to even start." He stated as he sat down beside my bed.

"Are you aware of what happened to your family?"

I raised an eyebrow to him as I thought upon it. His expression turned to worrisome within seconds as I realized what exactly he meant.

"Wait... The entire family? Even my fathers wife? Cousins?" I remained in shock as he nodded, resting his chin upon his hands as he leaned over, resting his elbows upon his legs.

"With them gone, you now have claim to the entire Lykon Family inheritance. All of which has been currently confiscated by the church and Archbishop until someone can either claim it, or it can be claimed by the church itself."

I glanced down, processing everything he had stated. Shaking my head as I thought of my brother.

"They can have it. Let his name die. I will maybe just... travel to Gridania. Maybe be treated better." I stated, firm in my belief until Haurchefaunt sat down beside me on the bed. Patting my hair to relax me a bit.

"You have an opportunity to claim your fathers fortune and use it for the betterment of Ishgard, or whatever you feel is best! If it sits in the church, it ends up into the next bureaucrats lap to be squandered." Sighing a bit, he looked me in the eyes.

"Would it not be a better situation if you took your rightful place all around? After all, your father would never have allowed you the rights to his estate. Last I was informed, he asked to have you sold off to the highest bidder for mating purposes."

I could not deny his claim as it was the very same thing my father even told me. Never would I have been accepted nor allowed to be in the family. From what Garrik told me, he even wanted me dead before I had a chance at life. Garrik... Now I could not stop from wondering, was this the intended result? What was his true motives for such actions and why all of this for me?

"Would I have to take the Lykon name?" I asked, with an assured displeasure as I glanced back up to Haurchefant.

"I would imagine so, it's not likely they would want the name nor family to die if a soul proprietor might be allowed to claim." He stood from the bed before walking back to the entrance. Glancing back at me with his calming smile before speaking again.

"I will let you decide ultimately and not pry upon the subject. But please, do think of the best for others, and yourself before giving into hatreds. Ah... and I shall be back with some warm coco! It always tends to brighten the mood around here." He proclaimed as he walked away, leaving me alone in the room to heal.

Sighing, I rested my head down upon the pillow and moved to my right side. With my left arm in a sling, it would likely be difficult to sleep comfortably, but it was all I wanted to do, even after the long sleep I had already been through. Shutting my eyes, I fell back asleep and awoke a few hours later as three guardsmen surrounded me with a bishop walking up to my face.

"Huh? What?!" I struggled a bit before they pushed me to lay down face against the bed. In my head, I was now horrified as I remembered the tattoos upon my back and legs, which I had never been able to see.

"What do you think bishop? Trechory? Blasphemy? Is she a heretic?" Someone from the corner asked, I could not see them as I watched helplessly while the bishop placed his hand upon the tattoo in the middle of my back.

"Signs of the twelve, up and down her body. My word, why would you have these placed upon you girl?" He asked, rather curious as he leaned down to face me.

"I did not know what they were until now! The heretics did this to me while I was captured! I Swear!" I pleaded as he stood up from the sounds of someone rushing into the room.

"By the rights of House Fortemp, you will forestall your transactions upon this injured woman in our care." Haurchefant stated from the doorway as the bishop shook his head.

"A bastard has no right to instill the will of a House. No matter the House he may come from."

"Aye, but I come armed with a letter from my father, Edmont, as well as head of House Haillenarte. That is two houses against your claims. Your move Bishop." Haurchefant stated as he held a letter up and handed it gently to the Bishop beside me.

Quickly reading it, the bishop shook his head, tossing the letter to the ground in anger.

"I swear these houses are descending into the madness of unholy slander." The bishop stated as he walked toward the door.

"The guards stay. She will have her day in the court."

Sighing, as he walked away, Haurchefant quickly covered me with a blanket.

"Sorry for the unwanted attention. An injured soldier reporting from Whitebrim Front eagerly informed his superior of your body. Now that they know you're alive, they suspect you of trechory as well. I had to act fast. Though unfortunate I was not fast enough to stop them from invading your room while you heal." He turned back to the guards and motioned at them to leave.

"You may stand outside the infirmary, not within. I'll not have you starring at an injured naked woman." He proclaimed as he stood fiercely before them. They swiftly moved to the doorway, remaining quiet.

I tugged at Haurchefants sleeve to grasp his attention. He turned to me wondering if I was okay.

"What are the tattoos of?" I looked upon him with worry as he slicked his hair a bit, not realizing I had no idea.

"Signs of the twelve gods, Including Halone. As you probably know, that is sacrilege in Ishgard."

I imagined the signs upon my back and legs. Why go through the trouble of doing this to me, and for what was the purpose?

"Very well Haurchefant. The odds are stacked against me. However, if you think it worth the effort, I will trust in you." I stated, laying back down as I looked to my injured arm still in a sling.

"You may have to do some fighting but, if you wish it, I will stand by your side." He stated with a grin, as he messed my hair a bit to relax me.

"Now get some rest."

To Be Continued.
