Eidolon- Prelude of Shadows #2

Public
It was a cold night in Mor Dhona from what Skan could tell. Having lived in his elezen body for a long time, he became accustomed to there mortal senses. A rather distasteful reminder how inferior these races were to him and his kind. Yet, for all there disadvantages, he could not help but admire them. Standing in between hope and the inevitable, there lifespans would end far before they would ever reach the point of which even the Allag had achieved.

Yet they continued forward to work towards a better future. Ever did they continue to put a smile upon his face, as they defied the odds stacked against them.

"I wonder my friend, could they have made the same choice as us?"

Skan asked toward no one in particular. He gazed over toward the crystal tower as the moon shined brightly behind it.

"To damn ourselves, destroy our own planet, take out half of our populous in the snap of the fingers. Only for us to live on thousands upon thousands of years to become the destroyers we once fought to destroy." He stated to himself as he sighed aloud.

The battle waged a various distance away. As usual, he was to stay out of it and make sure not to influence what might happen. To his surprise, the eorzean alliance had been victorious. Emet was never one to allow failure, therefore, Skan could only suspect, this was part of his plan. Even so, some of the best plans have failed by his other ascian associates.

With the destruction of the ascians upon the first, and the failings of there previous attempt to create a world of darkness from the thirteenth, Skan tended to wonder how much was planned and how much had gone horribly wrong in order to recreate there old world, saving those they were once close too.

"Would there be any reason behind it any longer? Emet, you and I helped lead the allagan empire to there advancements. The creation of the espers, our so claimed inheritors of the ascian legacy should we fail. All of it, was it for nothing I wonder? Hmmph.... Perhaps I have spent to much time in this old body. Limiting my mind to its primitive thoughts.." He proclaimed as his linkpearl began to buzz in his ear."

"Report! The Garlean Empire has unleashed a new weapon. Rhalgr's Reach has been hit. Can anyone confirm survivors? Report! Anyone?"

Skans eyes widened as he thought to himself.

*new weapon..... it could not possibly be-*

He stopped his train of thought as he quickly glanced toward the Rising Stones. Running in as he desperately looked for Pockets.

"Where is Pockets?!"

He asked as he looked around horrified for the first time in his life.

Tataru looked upon him with curiosity as she glanced to the private quarters.

"She is looking over the kitten Krehmia."

Skan rushed to the quarters, running into the Arks personal room as he found Pockets with the little kitten resting in her arms.

"Skanny! shhhh... the little one is sleeping." She stated, sitting upon a big chair with her legs dangling back and forth.

"Pockets, we have to leave this place now." Skan stated in a panic as he looked around the area.

"Whu- why would we leave? This is the safest place on the planet." She stated as she looked around, curious of what danger he might be thinking of. Skan could feel it coming, closer and closer to the Rising Stones. He quickly opened a portal for her and pointed at it.

"Go through now! Don't ask questions." He demanded of her as she remained on her chair.

"I can not just take the young Ark and leave Skanny! Why would I-"

"Do it! The poison will be here any moment. I can not stop it from harming either of you." He declared toward her as she quickly pushed herself off the chair, listening to him. As she walked through the portal, he immediately closed it, running back into the Rising Stones to get others to safety. "Everyone we have to-"

He stopped as he watched Tataru, lay upon the floor, gasping for her last breath.

"NO!" He rushed to her side as she reached out. Her eyes became blank as she sufficated, dying before him.

"EMEEEEET!" He roared, angry that he had not seen it coming. Pockets and the young Krehmia had been safely transported within the Crystal Towers entrance. He could easily get them out, but more important was the poison would not get in. Due to the high concentration of aether and crystal around the tower itself, they would be safe, so he hoped. Lowering his head, he knew, it was all far to late for the rest.

He stood from the dead lalafell sighing to himself as his elezen body fell off his ascian form, dead as well. Now too contaminated to ever use again. Glaring down as he removed his mask to look upon his dead elezen body.

"So it is that we continue to play the villain in this long winded tale. I.... am sick of it."

Five Years Later.

In the five years following, Skan buried many he once called friends. Cleo and Krohman died with many other scions on the field in Gyr Abania. Scarlette had been missing the entire time. With no one to tell him where she had gone, he searched for years to find her. Pockets would return with the Garlond Ironworks with the young Krehmia for a safe place to stay.

After some time explaining to Cid what had happened, and what to expect, Skan was asked to stay away from the Ironworks members as they tried to rebuild what little hope they had left. Where he listened, he did however lead them to a decent place to build and farm. With the aetherial manifestations in disarray since the Black Rose was unleashed, many lands became barren and dead, while other lands reformed. The aether also made it difficult to travel by portal and teleportation. Following the poison along the land, many aetherytes fell apart, absorbed of all aether they possessed, which may also have included those using them at the time.

Mahdi Draaken, the fabled son of Odin, lost his wife and many of his friends from the Black Rose. The result of which was catastrophic to the mortal side of him. With most of the Black Shroud destroyed from the poison, along with those whom roamed within, he would return to the Shroud, accepting his new role as Odin. Bringing with him endless conquest and dread within the Black Shroud. Any whom would dare trespass would not live long.

With little options left, Skan nearly gave up looking for the last esper. Until one day, an old friend contacted him. He asked to meet within the now ruins of Ul'dah.

Skan walked into the old adventurer's guild known as the Quicksand. A place which once held countless mortals, was now empty, abandoned and dissary. Much of the city-states had been abandoned over the past few years. To many people turned upon each other. The lacking resources such as clean water and food untouched by the poison would turn even parents against there own kin.

None suffered more then Ul'dah however in this calamity enduring world. Those with endless riches often never provided for themselves. More often after the calamity found there coin and riches to be useless compared to something as simple as a glass of clean water. As the ascian found a nice chair, he patted down the dust and sat down, awaiting his certain contact to arrive. Soon the double doors to the right of the old guild opened, and the miqo'te man walked in, with a lalafell beside him, covered head to toe in dusty leather.

The blonde hair of the miqo'te glimmered a bit as he walked up to Skan. He pulled out a chair and sat down beside him.

"Been a long time ascian." He stated, keeping his eyes upon the Skan, as he rested his arms upon his legs.

"You look no worse then the last time I saw you Fal." Skan stated, crossing his arms as he snickered to himself.

"No worse? I've been through a calamity!"

"Aye, and you still look about the same." Skan stated, smiling again as Fal sighed, rolling his eyes while glancing to his lalafell companion.

"Who's the girl?" Skan asked as he kept his eyes upon Fal.

"If you can tell shes a woman, then you likely already know who she is." Fal suggested as the lalafell walked up to them. She removed her leather headgear to reveal her long pink hair and big blank eyes.

"Nanemo Ul at your service." She stated as she took a seat beside Fal.

"The Sultana? How curious. Here I thought you had died with so many others." Skan stated as he wore himself a rather straight face now. The Sultana pulled out maps from her little pack upon her back, placing them upon a table next to them.

"Lolorito lead me to the depths under Ul'dah for safety. I had no idea how well prepared the man was, nor his resolve for my own leadership. Mr. Fal here found me some weeks later as he was searching for something." She stated as she looked up toward Fal whom was now adjusting the hilt of his gunblade.

"What might you be searching for?" Skan asked, tilting his head in curiosity.

"The aetherial manifestation left behind by Shtola and Minfilia when the three scions were sent into the lifestream. I figured I might be able to-" Fal stopped as he realized he was talking to an ascian and scratched at his ear.

"Forget it, I hear you've been searching for Esper."

"Aye, though I have yielded little info in such time." Skan stated as Nanemo tapped her finger against the map on the table.

"From what I have gathered over time, she must be in Garlemeld. Her body was never found and some of the injured troops from the war stated she headed there alone. I suspect she is a prisoner of war." Nanemo stated as she stood in her chair, looking at the ascian with great hatred.

"Your kind have destroyed our ways of life and countless lives in between. If we are to continue holding onto hope, we need someone whom will stand against you. I believe the last of such hope can be found in that woman. So I order you to go find her and bring her home!" The Sultana stated as she pouted her lip. Skan, despite being the worst creature in the room, could not help himself but smile at her.

"As you wish Sultana Nanemo Ul', by your leave."
