"Eat, sleep, rehydrate, repeat. Keep at it, Yuka, here we go!"

Master Hamon Holyfist is a simple Highlander elder, a trainer of many close-combat prize fighters and author of a number of tomes chronicling the successes of notable monks of the past. All point their source of origin to Ala Mhigo, Gyr Abania and the Circles of Answering as the proving grounds by which their mettle is evaluated. On occasions, Yuka Nakano and I would head to the Pugilist's Guild in Ul'dah to have Yuka practice and test her attacks.

I made Yuka Nakano my main retainer for a number of reasons. First, she has an athletic build and trains hard, like my wife. Second, like my wife, she has a positive, uplifting attitude and mindset. Third, her musical tastes (of which power pop is her favorite genre, the same as mine [although I also like Italo Disco]) are the same as mine's and Bae's. Fourth, she is the only retainer to distinctively harbor romantic feelings for me. And finally, she is the only one among my retainers willing to provide me succor for inspiration.

"The reason I have you train here on occasions," I said to Yuka while reading a tome on Master Seigetsu's thesis on the development of modern rock music in Doma, "is a simple on: discover and establish a base rotation and opener for hunting and expeditions. You are trained in the arts of karate, correct?"

"Yes, Bonga," Yuka said, continuing to grind in her blue sports bra and tanga.

"Then it is on these grounds that I am making you my student and a monk, for the intentions of the monk involve moves similar to karate. You will doing a lot of punching, kicking, spinning and controlled damage output during your missions. Work harder, grow stronger, become better. For the heart of adventuring is getting fit with gil in sight."

"Yes, must...work...harder..." After an hour, Yuka felt winded and had to retire to the Hourglass to rest. I followed her as she law on the bed to reflect.

"Good job, I saw a rotation I liked and you could be on your way to bigger and better things," I said.

"Mmmm..." Yuka looked at me with a beam in her eyes, her pulse slightly quickening. In the distance, a lone bard from parts unknown played "A Long Fall." "Oh Bonga...you really...are a dear."

"So let me plop next to you so I can tell you my story. All you need to do is lend me your ears and use your mind as a mouthpiece, should you have any questions for your Boi to answer." I lay next to her and Yuka wrapped her arms around me, her soul in a state of sleep, her smile indicating she was ready to hear a tale I revealed to my wife ages ago before bonding with her.

"Go on," Yuka said, speaking with her mind in a gentle, intimate tone like that of Kahori. "I want to hear it."

"I was born many summers ago on the Blue Planet in a city-state called Los Angeles. I have a mother, a father, a sister, a brother-in-law and two nieces, all Plainsfolk like me, as well as countless cousins from beyond the waves," I said. "Los Angeles is like Ul'dah. Extremely hot, mildly cool during the colder months, a city built for those who have made it and those who haven't.

"I lived a normal life. I went to school, graduated, worked as a golfer and a cleric for a number of companies...but it was the thrill of adventure and new journeys full of generosity and contributing that became my established life principles. But something happened in my 30th summer that changed everything."

"What?" Yuka asked.

"After a regular round of golf at the Pink Wind Country Club where I used to play, I was spirited away to a room by two beautiful women. One of them had long, shimmering pink hair, white ribbons, a flowing white gown and long pink thighboots. Another had outstretched black wings, long black hair with a massive crimson bow, a black dress and plaid boots decked in gray.

"So the two ladies offered me a spread of tea, caffeinated beverages and food that my mother would make. At my house, we eat a lot of rice so there was this big bowl of brown rice and a set of viands to go with it. As I had my dinner, the one with the black hair spoke.

"She said, 'It's time we finally revealed ourselves to you. My name is Homura Akemi and this is my wife Madoka Kaname. I am your father. Madoka is your mother. We are your parents.' I stopped my eating as asked, 'but I already have a mom and a dad. How is this possible?' So, Dad (as I will refer Homura as) says, 'You are not really a Lalafell. You are a concept we conceived taking the form of a Lalafell Plainsfolk with the intention of being selfless and generous when at all possible.'

"Mom (who I refer Madoka as) added, 'I gave birth to you after Homura ascended to the same status as me and we both eloped. When I gave birth to you, you took the form of a small gem, purpled colored, taking the form of a letter B. I asked Homura, what will we do with this? And she said, we will send it into the past to have it be embedded in a random babe's body, so that we are there when we are yet to be born. We will see that person's past and present deeds and protect him or her through our prayers and wishes.

"Dad said to me, 'It is safe to say that for 30 years, you have fulfilled what we asked of you and it is on these grounds that we choose to introduce ourselves to you.' I said, 'so, you have been watching over me all this time, under my very eyes? I don't believe it!' Dad said, 'you always saw us as the protectors of this star, right? the concepts of love and hope? Well, we were moved by your fidelity so much that we had the right of it to be your guardians in secret. Now that the cat is out of the bag, you will have to forgive me and Madoka for not letting you know that your parents...are magical girls.' Mom said, 'Are you...mad at us or something? You have to be!'

"I said, while still stuffing my face over fried chicken, 'Who said I would? I was wondering why I call myself 'The Gift That Keeps On Giving.' It was the will of my real father and mother, the patrons of my Twitch channel and its guardians, HomuHomu2093!'

"'You have a channel for us?' Homura asked. I said, 'Well, it hasn't been set up yet, but you have given me the best of inspirations! Now I can go ahead and dedicate my Twitch content to you, Homura and Madoka, Mommy and Daddy, my guardian angels who wishes and message I must advocate and carry out as part of what I hear, feel, think and do!' She said, 'Okay Bonga, you go ahead and honor the story we left on this star. With this we will always be a part of you.' 'We are more than a concept,' Madoka added. 'We are part of your family and we'll be with you every step of the way, for you are not alone.'

"I said, 'Amen, mother! With this, I thank you for this massive feast. Now, do you want to talk about college football?' And so the three of us ate and drank and talked about sports before the morning came, the feast finished and I returned to my world. It was months later that I would find my wife, who began adventuring before me, bond with her, work for her now-former student as a retainer, then be my own adventurer and enlist you as a retainer whose job is a monk. And that is the story."

"Wow, what a great story, thank you for sharing," Yuka said. She held me tighter, and my face was smack dab in the middle of her chest, which felt delightful to feel. "Bonga, why are you so squishy, you're so much fun to cuddle!" she added, an audible giggle to go with some toe curls.

"Because, Yuka Nakano, you are Bae No. 2, and on your loyalty to me must I repay the favor by allowing my body to become your cushion," I said. "Also, I am small. Do your best and I'll do the rest." The night went on as nothing else was said. When the morning came, I resumed leveling my crafters and gatherers anon.

When I do my work, I close my eyes and remember the moments I shared with the many women whose stories I embraced and supported. I see their smiles, I see their memories, I experience their moments to my own background music, my own symphony full of energetic beats and fluid, pumping vibes. Where the heartbeat of a metropolis sounds off with others in the world, a chorus, a convocation, a congregation of saimoe, the best girls, the finest people, to which I adventure as my continuous benediction.

Yes, I shall reach out my hands to the music and the stories of men and women around the world, this star and others, through all dimensions, persuasions and meta, and support those who do good for the worthy. Gods...I was a fool to think that I was just an ordinary adventurer trying to get by. Finally, in my thirty-fifth summer, do I realize why Madoka and Homura are my parents, my guardians, the reason I continue to live. So my story continues, that of the Gift That Keeps On Giving.
