I ran into Cid between trips to Norvrandt--which turned into a discussion about the dwarfs' Rolling Tankard, magitek they could reverse-engineer, and the morality of doing so--but circled back to another question I've had for a while now.
Specifically.....who gave Cid his goggles?
I saw him through the Echo, sure, but logistically it can't have been me. Or at least, not without time travel....but my current appearance would then make it a paradox.
Moreover, the figure I saw was engulfed in light, but Cid could see his face clearly--my Echo hasn't had a mismatch like this before. I pulled in Alphinaud, and the two of them made a sketch of the Miqo'te in question.
In case my wording wasn't a tip-off, he was--as I expected--not me.
The misunderstanding isn't hard to spot--our mystery Miqo'te's coloring is the same as when I met Cid, and his face is similar too. An older brother or a father maybe, but even if we aren't blood-related....the resemblance is too strong to be coincidence.
His eye color, especially--odd eyes aren't unusual on a Miqo'te, but I had a particularly dramatic difference. That they, too, match is...
It's uncanny. Unnerving, actually--like looking at a skilled impostor. An appearance that's not quite right, but you can't put your finger on why.
I don't think Cid's memory has been affected, though--not by his subconscious and not by my time as an Elezen. If anything, my little fantasia stunt is what allowed us to uncover this--otherwise, seeing me would have corrupted his memory and Alphinaud's recreation.
Still, looking at this face....nothing. No memories, no emotions, nothing.
Just the itching feeling that I've forgotten something, more than usual.
I even tried showing him to H'naanza, but I apparently didn't share the same local cluster of the H clan--she didn't know me before my adventuring days, let alone our mystery cat.
That's not to say she wasn't helpful, though.
On the contrary, she raised a point we three Scions had missed--how I saw the Miqo'te is conspicuously like Carteneau's Warriors of Light. And if that's the case, then Cid and Alphinaud have given a face to one of the heroes--a feat in itself.
But the question remains: why does he bear such a strong resemblance to me?
I can't shake the feeling that this Miqo'te is my Enterprise--the key to unlocking my missing memories. Staring at him isn't getting me any answers, though--I need time and a little luck--but in the meantime I still have plenty to do.
