Were oaths broken or made

A journal entry from my WoL's perspective:

While everyone's reaction to Aymeric's reckless decision to face the Archbishop himself was one of disbelief and that he was acting out of his character, I for one was not surprised. I could tell from our earlier quest to face Nidhogg that there's a fire in him that would throw himself in harm's way, as long as it meant stopping a greater danger from consuming his people. It's reckless, impulsive, especially someone with his responsibilities and stature. But his desire to act made sense to me. Even when all those around him talked him down from that ledge. So for him to storm off to give the Holy See a good talking to, I just thought ah, Youth. Just like Ysayle, with the righteous yet naive belief that truth will free and heal a corrupt system.

The Count called us romantics to go after Aymeric, and looking back it was a romanticized mission. Like Aymeric, we were reckless, earnest, just, when it would've been wiser to be more tactical, prudent, discreet. But it's Aymeric, he's incredibly beloved. That I could see.

But it wasn't his face I looked to when we went after the Archbishop. I've seen this other face countless times before, and I started to take it for granted that he'd show up just when I'm about done with wiping the floor with bodies. Still my friend was there.

And then he was not.

Perhaps I made Aymeric uncomfortable when I told him I was ready to bathe in someone's blood for this inexplicable loss. I don't regret rescuing him, I don't. I can't. Just ... Was this my friend's calling? To die in my place? I knew that spear was meant for me. But was his oath then fulfilled? My grief is seething out my skin. Everything to this point. This town's politics, its hypocrisy, back to what happened at Ul'dah, and back further to the Waking Sands.

One can age a millennia in a fraction of a second.

- Out of Character Notes -
I knew what was coming but yeah, it was still had impact. I'm glad. Made me appreciate the story more. I changed things up again, thinking back to how things get when grief happens. Get so shaken up it just changes one's whole demeanor. Now I feel like I really need a sword. Sadly, I'm not into tanking. I don't know what happens next after this, so that's something to look forward to now. I must kill all the things.
