INTRO

I bought my first house around the end of 2023 and finished decorating it after the New Year’s celebrations. Since I spent almost an entire year living in it, I thought it would be a good opportunity to look back at how my house has changed over the year, including the 7.0 graphics update and some minor changes I made to the design over time.

Housing in FF14 is a very social experience, unlike anything I have experienced in other video games. It’s not just an isolated instance where you can test your creativity, it acts as a vehicle for social interactions with friends or even strangers. Over my two years of playtime, I have met many amazing people. Gifts from some of them have found a permanent place in my house and my apartment, creating a unique space shaped not only by my hand but also by the generosity and friendship of fellow players. Flowers grown in a personal garden, a Valentione’s cake, an oldrose bouquet, while to outside visitors these items might seem mundane, for me they are a constant reminder of all the fun times I had with my friends. And so, through these objects, memories of them live on with me.

Several months ago, I updated my house with the Country House exterior, which was introduced to the game in 7.0 patch. This in turn led me to redecorate the outdoor courtyard as well. The updated design now features a separate terrace in the southern part of the plot that is integrated into the house's awning, as well as a more public yard space that connects with the entrance path. Below are the updated explanations of the main design principles of the outdoor and indoor spaces of the house.

HOUSE DESIGN CONCEPT

The main stylistic theme for the house is a garden. I wanted to have as many plants as possible to create a cozy yard, and to separate it into different areas. The main goal of the design was to invoke a specific sense of spatial progression. As you move from the main entrance deeper into the more private parts of the yard you transition from clean and tidy representative spaces into more agricultural and utilitarian parts of the property with various gardening equipment stored on display and of course the garden itself.

The first area visitors find themselves in has a stone path that leads to the main entrance of the house. On the right of the path, there is a narrow patch of grass that leads into the private part of the yard with a lawn for picnics and various other activities. Behind it a terrace is situated, creating a covered and more private space for relaxation. Next to the terrace, a garden is situated with all the gardening equipment. Furthest from the public eye it acts as a place to grow various plants.

INTERIOR DESIGN CONCEPT

Nature is based on cycles. It is an order imposed on us by the physical reality of our star. The entire layout of the house is organized around an outdoor garden in the center of the property. Such placement provides spatial continuity, ensuring that all the different functions can be accessed while moving in a circle around it in any direction. Just like nature’s seasons, different functions of the house unfold as you travel around it.

Players who enter the house find themselves in the main hallway. They are greeted by the view of the garden and a couple of armchairs to accommodate visitors if needed. To the right, there is a secluded wardrobe area, while on the left, the main space of the house unfolds into three main functions: a kitchen, a dining area, and a study area with a desk and a bookshelf. On the opposite side of the entrance, a bedroom zone is located with a foldable futon. Between the bedroom and wardrobe a bathroom with a restroom is situated.

The house is open to the public. Location: Chaos, Phantom Mist, Ward: 11, Plot: 17.

I would also like to take a moment to thank everyone who left kind comments in the Message Book at my house, as well as all the people that took the time out of their day to like and comment on my blog. It is very hard to express just how grateful I feel to know that someone found my work interesting ♥
