The Sins They Burden | 2 | Close to Heart

Public
"What are you doing here Allen?" Adam angerly questioned.

The room was packed with the serviving family members. Sen sat in between the two old men. His grandfather's carefree expression. While his grand uncle was best decribed as not being in the best of moods at the current moment. His arms crossed in in clear irritation at Allen's sudden arrival. Abel was more apathetic to this entire thing. He sat in a chair off to the side,

"Relax Adam I'm not here to cause anything wrong-"

"Don't say 'here to do anything wrong' to me. Your the reason why your own daughter is consitered missing." Adam barked at Allen, leaning forward out of his chair.

Allen kept a stright face. "Calm down Adam, I didn't come here to vidgil on argue about my daughter's status." Allen stated raising a hand to stop Adam's outbrust. "I'm here to give some news."

Adam calmed himself down sitting back down into his chair. The man still a little livid. He stared at Allen with daggers. He couldn't really stand being in the same room as the man that, in his eyes, abandoned his child. Something he continually did. It wasn't just his own daughter, he argued to himself that he practically abandoned his brother and friend as well. That person known as Sebastion, which Runa would talk at length to Sen about when he was still young. Allen though was seemingly trying to make an effort to not make the same mistake twice. He didn't want to lose another one that was close one would assume. Adam still stone, unmoving, rather irritated old face held back whatever anger he had.

"Whatever news you have. Speak quickly and leave." Adam grumbled, taking his glass of whisky.

Allen replied rather heavily as he leaned back in his chair with his arms chrossed. "The scions might be alive."

At that moment the the room became stunned in scilence. A fountain pen could even be heard. Sen even perked up at the news as well as Abel. Sen could easily feel this thought. Finally he thought, this could be his chance. His chance to find and prove himself. Not to mention get some solice in his mother's whereabouts. Adam was rather shocked, as well as Abel. The thought of them being somewhere in the world, it was a slight glimmer of hope. Nonetheless for the world.

"So that would mean?" Abel would utter from his mouth.

Allen nodded his head. "Yes..." He seemed to acknowlage the fact of what Abel was going to say. "It's this reason I've come to request your assistance Abel. Since your the only other person who had, connections with the scions."

Abel thought to himself in scilence for a moment. He seemed hesitant to try but he also seemed slightly desperate. Since Runa was his wife, someone he loved highly. Someone he stuck with thick, and thin reguardless of the siduation. But he deeply knew he may not be able to come back. But he felt like he had to in order to get some closure. He then readied to utter a word in agreement.

"Alright I'll-"

"Father let me go instead!" Sen spoke up. Shooting up out of his chair.

Everyone in the household turned their attention to Sen. It seemed as though this statement was rather unexpected. At that moment Sen could feel a multitude of emotions from different directions. Surprise, speachlessness, dread, and much much more. It was rather awkward, and unexpected. But also somewhat espected. It was at that Adam got up from his seat, and stared at his grandnephew with a dissaplanary look that could scare the sweat out of a voidsent.

"Sen this is no job for you. Sit down and let your father do this." He stated fermly.

"Uncle please, I'm not a kid anymore! Besides I can fight-"

"IT DOESN'T MATTER IF YOU CAN FIGHT OR NOT SEN!" Adam raised his voice angerly. Slaming his hand onto the table. "Your too weak, and frail. Your body could kill you at anytime. I am not risking a single young life of your innocence out of you like your mother."

Sen raised his voice at his rather jaded uncle in protest. "That isn't for you to decide just-!"

"No Sen you're staying here. Where you are safe and-"

"THAT IS ENOUGH ADAM!" Abel's voice rose above the agument. Adam turned his attention to the black haired esper. Who's normally calm kind face was twisted in livid anger.

-

Abel seemingly had enough of this farce. He didn't care anymore about his son being safe, or the matter of whether he should stay or not. The but the thought of even sheltering his child was enough to push him over the edge. Mainly due to the fact that his own father had done the same to him. To disasterous results, he wanted his son to learn on his own and be free. Something Runa wanted the same. If he desired to leave onto his own adventure. Than he shall have it.

"Abel you're agreeing to this? Don't you care about the well being of your own child?" Adam angerly questioned.

"I know my child's needs, I want my child to be safe. What I DON'T want my child to be sheltered. Out of fear of loss." Abel said rather brazenly. "If my son wishes to take my place than so beit. If he wishes to see the world beyond this place then I won't protest."

Adam became sturn, he didn't feel a need to protest nor question. The husband of his adoptive niece. But he felt somewhat guilty, he felt more than guilty for trying to make the same paranoid mistake most would. However this was from a man who lost his brother who stared his death stright in the eyes. Tempting fate nearly every single day of his life. Insuring he was that he was happy, and safe. He seemingly took this freedom for granted. Forgetting the reason why his brother gave up his freedom. Putting up with prejustice, and ghosts from the past. Something he didn't even consiter. Once Runa came into his care, he never really gave things a second thought. That girl who was full of spunk, leaving to Ul'dah returning home with a missing arm. He felt a twinge of worry for the first time. He became happy when she became a woman, and was wed to build a family. The moment she dissappeared he grew paranoid. Fearing he would loose his grandnephew. It seemed the older he became, the more fightening the world came.

Adam looked at Sen with a stern face. But also for conformation and reasoning. "Sen..." he spoke, "are you sure you want to do this?"

"Yes, I want to know why but I also want to see what the world has to offer." Sen stated.

Adam sighed as he sat back down into his chair."Very well....Your going to need a weapon though."

It was ten that Allen spoke up. "I have that covered. This was a long time coming honestly."

Allen took the wrapped object off of the chair he was sitting in. Placing it on the table. Sen could feel the rather almost overwelming aura about it. But it didn't make him sick, like most aether based objects. He didn't feel lightheaded, or naucous for the matter. It was somewhat like, at least to him, like a symbyonic relationship. Allen procided to pull back the cloth covers bit by bit from the strange object. Suspence filled the room with baited breath, and curiousity. Once he finished the object was reveiled. A beautiful silver lance it's shaft a shining color. It's shaft a beautiful black. Finished off with a nice subtle blue sheen. Giving it a beautiful glow. Sen was amazed at it's craftmenship, and he became enchanted by it.

"What is this?" Abel said as he stared at the weapon.

"Remember that old bargan we made years ago kid? Well here's the other end of that." Allen said.

"Ah yes the blades. I completly forgot about those...." Abel said laughing almost nervously.

"Is...this for me...?" Sen questioned.

Allen turned to his grandson giving a smile. "Yes it is my boy. Specially made too to help with that horrible sickness of yours." He stated clearly.

Sen picked up the lance and examined it. It was a few inches taller than what he was used to. But he didn't mind whatever worked he'd eventually grow into it. He admired the work of the lance rather beautifully. Nonetheless he much appreciated the gift.

That night Sen at layed down in his bed. Looking at the rafters of his ceiling. He thought about the past memories of his family. His mother consoling when he got hurt. Reading him stories when he was young, ones where heroes went on journeys to save kingdoms. Ones where the memoryless hero would go on a personal jourey. So many that roused his mind as a child. To try and think about it, he picked up his old stuffed moogle. Now more than a little worse for wear, being torn slightly with an eye missing replaced with a button. A rip on it's chest that Sen sew a heart shaped patch over. Parts that were ripped were sewn crudly with red string. It was his momento. It was full of memories, and it gave him comfort. He was too old for such childish toys, but he didn't care. He took the doll and held it close to his chest. Whispering to himself as he stared at the window, 'Mom are you proud of me? Are you happy for me?' He then slept peacfully in his bed. The doll still in his arms.
The next morning Sen was ready to leave. However he wasn't quite prepared stopped by his father.

"Here...." Abel slid a small clothes pile to his son.

A red hooded poncho and a white knitted scarf. Below on the ground was a pair of armored boots. Sat in front of the boy. Looking up at his father as he did.

"Your mother made those for you for when you got older. She wasn't sure of how big you were going to get, but She estimated." He said with a half-hearted smile.

Sen took the pile and put the set on. It fitted rather nicely for his age. He felt an emotional warmph from it. Almost like she placed her love with each piece of woven fabric. Once he was done and ready he stepped outside in the early moring sunrise. His father looked at him in consolement.

"Are you sure you'll be alright?" He questioned

Sen smiled "Don't worry dad I'll be fine. I promice I'll be home-" Sen stated, Abel wrapped his arms around his child. "Please be safe." He stated almost on the verge of tears.

"I- I will dad..." Sen said, he walked away waving goodbye to his home.
