How much do you get paid to play?
In the years I've lurked/posted on this platform I've read countless times of players returning after a long hiatus, or getting burnt out for one reason or the other. I personally think that is the way of the game.
It is a natural occurrence to have a drive, excitement from something only to have that something become lackluster, or feel more like a job. This holds true in many ways to sports, hobbies, other focus of interest that at one time engulfed your time, held your focus to a point you could not wait to engage in said activity. And along comes the next shiny new focus of your attention and the cycle repeats. You may return to that focus again, you may even feel the passion to reignite that fire you once had and you continue on as if you never left off. This is normal.
Now what if that something no longer holds your attention as it once did?
What if you felt obligated somehow to continue this thing that held your attention? What if you felt you just couldn't stop it, something MADE you keep coming back to it? No real identifiable reasoning could be summarized, but an impulse just to continue. What if you found yourself saying "I have this content to finish then I'll be bored again"?
What if you found yourself logging in to log in, doing your daily routine, standing around, watching your pixel character standing there doing nothing. Complaining to others, "I'm bored, there's nothing to do". Maybe you commiserate with others of the same feelings, maybe they are thankfully hidden behind pixels and screen saying aloud .."Like I give a F*&$ about how bored they are, sheesh log off".
This goes without saying, YOU are the one paying for this game. If at anytime YOU feel it to be a job take a look at your Subscription and come to the realization YOU are subjecting yourself to this self imposed frustration. If you feel frustrated with something that incites you to share freely with others how bored you are, "there's nothing to do" ECT why are you logged in? Does proclaiming your boredom somehow elicit endorphins in your brain making you suddenly feel better? You after all are not the one receiving compensation for your time playing. You are paying for the service. Yes, you very well may have a specific task, event that drives you to play this game ( Savage/ new story/ new fashion ect) but you knew this was a fleeting excitement. That Raid will be over like clockwork within a month. That glam will be replaced easily within a few weeks. That new story done in a day if that. Why complain? I'm generally asking?
If at anytime you find yourself questioning why you re-subbed? Why you logged in? Why you even bother? Maybe it's time to take (another) break. Time to focus on yourself outside of the game. Dial up RL friends/family/ associates/ and see how they are doing. Maybe take up hiking, or knitting, or cooking. If anything Covid has taught us is shit can change in no time flat. Expand your horizons, if you don't feel happy make yourself happy. And while you do that...you'll make others happy not hearing YOU be unhappy about something we are paying good ass money to enjoy.
LOL Lolo, it's funny. I was JUST thinking about this today.
With the new patch I REALLY pushed myself to do the content and I am just dead tired with the grinding. But yet, a month or 2 from now I will be in that 'log on and nothing to do mentality'.
Why? because of the way the FF14 community does new stuff. You gotta get on the 'bandwagon' and strike or it gets too hard later to progress and clear stuff, especially stuff that requires a lot of people.
If you don't do this you miss out.
I really DO wish I could pace myself, a little here, a little there; to draw it out so I have stuff to do for months. But this is a MMORPG, solo options for interesting stuff are few and far between. The best and challenging stuff in the game require people for the most part; and those people want it done NOW!
Maybe that's why some are really into crafting, it's solo and you can pace yourself. But even that gets old once you have done everything and have no one to craft for.
And I totally understand the 'Gotta hurry up with the train and get this done" mentality. Whether it be a relic, Yo-kai, MSQ so you can run the new Raid blind for the New raid blind dying fun. I get it, really I do. BUT, if someone isn't having fun, if all they can do is share with others how unhappy they are...that's not just bored because their interest has been completed, that's just a negative vibe I feel is unnecessary.
If I complain, that's my right. I pay my sub and that's how I chose to spend my virtual time. But, why? I know for a fact no one wants to hear about me getting a colonoscopy. Or what color my stool is after I ate all the corn. Why would anyone give two F**(s about if I'm bored or not? Or me making a production about leaving this game? If someone is unhappy, or feels discontent wouldn't you just take a break or simply bounce? If things are boring...why would you continue?
I have taken 3 or 4 breaks during my time of playing, does that mean I win?
I ask those questions often and... “Why do I play the game if I hate everyone?” It is indeed time to bow out.
Kupo, my siren brethren sometimes you have to step away. If we find ourselves itching to play we come back and start up again. Do you win? You always win in my book.
Oh not related to the topic, did you see you can get those glam wings from the golden saucer? (sadly can't equip for battle)
Misa, come play with Kupo and I before you leave :D
I took a long break. Before my break, I was doing many things and even went to try savages and ex primals. It was fun for a good time but then got boring. A reason why I take a break in between and become casual. I just explore the world and unlocking new content and collecting items.
When I hear friends about their static groups and farming high end content, I get a bit overwhelmed LOL cuz I wish I could hurry up and just do and join them, but then I remember why I took a break before.
Ryan, I think your frame of mind is proper. Play until it's not fun then simply take a break. Come back when the feeling hits again. I find that to be a healthy outlook. That allows yourself the opportunity to enjoy different aspects of the game you may have forgotten about or not thought about doing. And if you have done it all, you can focus on the parts that appeal to you.
Wait there's wings now? Tell me more.
Can you dye them? Would be kinda lame if not.
The grinding got me to quit for almost a year, and fell off my lalafellin graces upon return.
But right now, I’m not even sure why I’m logging on. I’m trying to level the rest of my healers (maybe to get ready for the new healer), but my goodness. I’m questioning myself how I completely forgot to whm or to ast.
Ok Lolo, I'll come visit and I think I'll stick around for the new healer/new expansion.
I'm one of the slowest paced players around and there are still periods of time where I'm just tired of seeing Eorzea. I love it and have plenty that I could do but Netflix or other games suddenly sound like more fun most evenings, for awhile.
Sorry for the late response..
@Kupo no dye options that I'm aware of
@Cherish You're at least a cute bunny so there's that. You'll re-learn healing fast enough...everyone pulls every and anything so it's at least it's to be expected. And good to see you post :D
@Misa. YAY when you have a alt on Aether please come and say hi!
@Sugar Netflix and no screen time have been a thing lately.I get the feeling I log in for a bit and stomach ugly ass Bozjsackia crap then onto Hulu it is.
I just started the very first quests for Bozja because I started playing in August and I've been doing a lot of catching up. I didn't do any story skips either because I got way too invested in it. Anyway, I'm hoping I can catch another wave of people just starting the Bozjan raids and whatnot because it seems like the whole mass of people flying through it are sort of on the same wavelength already.
Lyra, at the moment there is a ton of activity in Bozja ( at least Aether) so I'm pretty sure you should have some great opportunity to be caught up in no time flat. Although word of warning, pace yourself because the grind can be really taxing on you :D
I have always enjoyed the game myself the community is another thing completely. I will say though due to some medical issues I have had to take breaks to have operations, so I guess them breaks even though a pain in the backside, stops me from being burnt out.
Some people in this community though really make me wonder, I think if them people were not in this community I would never question if I wanted to come back. Mind we all have to get our laughs from somewhere, and if not from them where
I however do not get paid anywhere near enough to put up with the crap I have had to from that group and its members.
Well Pan all I can say is I hope the beef between yourself and the folks arguing with you stops. Nothing like logging in only to feel weighted down with frustration and anxiety.
I will say tho, it's a two way street, so no matter how tantalizing it may to sneak in a passive aggressive comment or jab, refrain. If you have kept to yourself, screen shot their /t or actions and report. DO NOT ENGAGE, anything YOU do will count AGAINST you no matter how insulting/demenaing they are to you.
My main issue is the accusations that they are making whilst naming and shaming me in their blogs.
But yeah I 100% understand where you are coming from its just so annoying, You mind your own business and you play the game, and someone decides they randomly don't like you, because you didn't want to join their group who has caused drama for a lot of other people over the years and then they start on you. And your the "criminal"
And yeah I have recorded all the things they have said about me, taken screen shots, and reported reported reported.
Welp hopefully you all can get back to the entire reason we play this game, to ahhh...play this game ;D
LOL yeah I always enjoy the game mind, I'm more of a solo player, although I do raid with a static, which is probably the most social I get.
Im normally found gathering or crafting. Fishing at times as well, Im working on getting Lord of the Seven Hues next.
What ever keeps you interested is honestly all the matters. My FC, and some of the friendships I've made in this Pixel World keeps me around. And things that glow...sucker for weapons that glow >.<
oh yeah, I cant wait to see what the final relic looks like, shiny axe <3
wow, soooo many responses in this.
It's funny, do I have fun rushing, no, of course not, But it's a necessary evil if you ant to see completion in any reasonable amount of time. Otherwise, it may never get complete and you wasted your time trying.
But now it is done and I have to admit, I am kind of bored now and want something new to do. I REALLY want to do Reginae savage, but cannot commit the time to 3 hour statics multiple times a night because I work at nights, not to mention family.
I just resub, but this time I come back with a goal. Once I am done with that, I will unsub again. I have to say, my favourite activity in FFXIV is writing on Lodestone. It is fun to read about others adventure in the game and wipe stories. Honestly, I am the one who secretly miss the good old days when this place was very vibrant.
Good to have you back again Sigurd. It's good you've found a balance between your Music, Work, FFXIV, and Real life responsibilities. I hope you can find fun while your subscription is active!
@Anna I understand rushing to keep relevant for Raiding, or maybe for that first or second days death Allied Blind run throughs. The flip side to that of course is the simple fact if you haven't left something else for you to do it's going to be break time or log in simply to socialize.
@Pan, I REALLLLLLY hope the glow is freaking amazingballz...because dam. I'm taking little breaks chipping away as I can stomach the monotony :D
@Lolo: yeeeeah, I kinda miss my lala at the moment too. Although one time I had a healer mark me because she couldn’t see me when she said to try her stomach and pull everything :^)
Oh I can sch just fine, i guess it’s the only one I really bothered learning enough. The other healers, I just leveled for the heck of it. I guess it’s similar to how gnb never warmed up to me.
Cherish, I was stubborn as hell about trying GNB at first. Then I started using it more often and now I freaking love it. Give it another try Cherish it takes a little bit more thinking to stay alive but SHEESH the damage you put out is so much fun!
Ironically I started to learn healing with SCH. I loved having the DPS ability with shields just was a nice combo until AST became a thing. Although the dos was booboo on AST the cards, quick heals quickly yanked me away from SCH..now I hardly use it
Bahahaha, I do need to take a break from leveling a DPS. I just need one more lvl to max NIN, so I'll try with GNB again. My first choice of tank was WAR and I ended up loving PLD more.
Oh and I learned with SCH first, too! I remember my first run as SCH and my tank pulled wall to wall. We survived, though. I might have been a very angry lala during that run.
HAHAH Early stages surviving wall to wall on SCH was HORRIBLE. Must later when you have so much more in your toolkit it becomes more Viable. I think Bardams Mettle and Dohn Meg really got me salty about SCH lol. Astro Pre MP buff was slightly challenging but felt so much more doable!
Rather Tank anyhow :D
And you are back to greatness <3
I think Dohn Mheg, I did pretty good. No accidental deaths or intentional wipes. Now, Bardam's Mettle is a completely different story lol. I only ran it once, and I do remember we wiped during the second boss. I never went back after.
I don't know what will piss me off with WHM and AST yet, but the fact that my DoTs, Bane, and Shadow Flare, as well as the change with Cleric Stance... I'm not particularly happy. I like the sudden panic when I'm in CS and my tank's dying.
Also, I miss the drive by pettings I get ( with one exception in Balmung when someone sent me a rather suggestive tell, and my lala was dressed in a very conservative way).
LMAO. When a NON-Lala sends a suggestive /t to a Lala that is some Child Predatory Stuff. It's even suspect from another Random lala tbh. But that's for another Topic entirely ¬.¬
From a SCH standpoint I don't miss Cleric stance at all! I can't tell you how many times I'd panic and forget to switch that shit OFF. UGG..Fairy was also OP back then, and DPS was Whm level back then too.
Apparently, this was the "sexy" lala. I had that stripe leggings and boots, so the only skin that shows are the arms and head lol, and it was an elezen who sent me that tell.
I think it was Fenris (catboi tank that used to post here too) that I accidentally killed one time because I totally forgot to turn off that damned stance. I was wondering why my heals so bad, too.
Cute yes, but sexy is something you leave in the drafts unless you really know that person and they are receptive toward that comment. <.<
And Poor Fen lol. As a Dragoon main I'm sure the floor is nothing new to him :3
