Recently got put in the novice network. I personally dont have a problem with it. I think novice chat channels are a good place for information. Even vets can learn something new, unless youve been on since ARR, then you probably already know everything. A mentor learned how a novice can be removed from the chat. Was a big conversation about how on invite a novice is forced into the chat. I personally had no problem with it since i wanted in anyways, but i can see where it would peeve people. In my opinion it should automatically put you in the novice network at least for the first 24 hours of account creation, or the entirety of the free trial. Thats just my opinion. And with all of the notifications that pop up it doesnt make sense why they wouldnt make this a pop up notification. What are your thoughts?
I agree that novices should be put in the Novice Network by default. More notifications are needed too. If older players with "new characters" are annoyed they should know how to deal with it. It didn't make sense to me that mentors had to invite Novices into the novice network, since there was no way for a mentor to know if a sprout is actually a novice or an old player in a new character.
Yea, that was the big debate. One guy that was complaining said he only created the new character to see how long it took for the leaf to go away and said if he left chat the leaf wouldnt be there anymore. Still, he should have known it was a possibility to be brought into the chat.
Yoshida said that the invite system is in place to prevent gil spammers from having instant access. It's up to mentors to distinguish those characters and not invite them or remove them if they do get invited.
Thanks Lago. I forgot about the gil spammers.
The leaf is time-based, number of hours played. I've played with sprouts in A5S.
168 hours and the completion of the ARR main story I believe.
Wow! I thought you had the sprout till you played for 40 hours or something back in the day.
40 hours was how it used to be. They changed it soon after the novice network was put in.
I think its a little excessive to keep you in it for the entire story. I have no problem with the novice network. I just dont want the sprout. I know theres a chat command where you can take it off whenever but i cant remember.
