Video 1: basic voice commands in FF14

Public
It was a long time coming, but I finally finished this, I hope you like it.....

Did you know that you can do voice commands in FF 14? You can with a program called Voiceattack. It allows you to create voice commands for use in applications, games, and even the Windows OS itself.

It uses keystrokes or controller buttons mapped out to the various functions of the software it's being used with and the keystrokes/buttons are triggered by a voice command that Voiceattack ties to the keystroke/button.

It works quite well and is extremely versatile in the hands of people that know how to program. Even if you don't, it is very easy to create basic commands. If you are proficient with programming, you can create very elaborate commands that do multiple things with just one voice activation.

It is windows based only. There is no separate Mac version (though you can run it through win emulators) Nor is there a PS4 version since you need an actual computer to run and program it.

I made a short video showing Voiceattack in action in FF14 so you can see the commands bring used. I only did a few basic ones for White Mage to give you an idea what one can do with it. Please forgive the crudeness of the video, it is my first time trying something like this. Ugh, reviewing it, my voice sounds a bit hoarse, I don't know why it recorded so crappy, maybe I am just getting old.;p

I did read though recording your voice and video at the same time can produce an odd echo effect. Maybe for the next one I won't record me talking the same time as recording or just do a separate voice over. But that KIND of defeats the purpose of this if you can't hear me talking in the actual video as the command goes off.

Note: if you already use the keyboard/mouse combo to play, you may not find this very useful since you are probably already hitting macro keys. But if you use a controller with the computer it's great. It allows you to do multicommand macros without having to take your hands off the controller to hit a key or map it to one of the few buttons you have. It also makes it easy to access abilities in the lower sets on your controller scheme without having to switch down to set 2, 3, 4, etc.

Of course the only bad thing about this is you gotta remember what all the voice triggers are for each of the commands you make. If you go crazy, it can be quite a lot of commands. ;p Luckily there is a way to print out your profile list so you have easy lookup of them in case you forget one.

Well, there you go, I hope you liked the video. There will be another showing additional things one can do with the software.

A really neat concept. I bet this could help so many

Neat idea, kinda like speech to text to keyboard. People with arthritis, carpal tunnel etc could really make good use of this. One drawback I could see with this though is the fact that you'd probably have to speak VERY clearly, otherwise the mic and/or software might misinterpret your commands. Might be tough to pull off in intense combat situations.

Good video too, way better than my 1st ever (I think mine was a Diablo 3 run, played on a Wal-Mart potato. I never knew then what you know now).

Joe, yes, with Voiceattack it is VERY important to train the windows speech recognition profile so the software can understand you better. It recommends that you run train it 3 or 4 times. It does help.

Also, when making commands, put what you SOUND like in there. Like for 'C1', I put both c1 and see one because C can sound like see to the program unless you pronounce it very clearly. For help, you can go to the confidence measure to see what words the program are hearing when you talk.

Well this is very surprising,

There are currently 88 views of this blog but according to youtube only 19 people have actually watched the attached video. So WHY bother even looking at the blog if you have no interest in the video?

It's kind of disappointing really, it took a long time to make that.

maybe it does not show if you press from the lodestone? It is also a pain to watch videos from your phone.

I do not know if this is the reason, but I think someone needs to watch a certain % of the video for it to count as a view.

The video can only be looked at though the link here, there is no way to search for it. So it BETTER work from here! 😋

Sig’s reason makes kind of sense, though I don’t know why anyone would not watch the whole thing, it’s only about two minutes long.

Oh, I have the second video done and uploaded to YouTube, I will be making a blog entry soon linking it.

I love the accessibility potential of this - people with hand injuries, arthritis, etc... it might not be possible to fully play with voice commands but it can make the process easier for sure.

Yes Lalli! The accessibility potential is huge, and it may reduce hand strain, especially for people with manual dexterity issues.

The only issue I could see is that there is a slight delay (~0.1s) as the program interprets the voice command. I think even this could be overcome by speaking the command early and changing the macro to spam the skill at intervals of 0.1s, to force the system to queue it up and execute it without delay.

I wonder if the developers have any stance for or against such programs. As with all 3rd party tools, it is kind of a grey area. This one actually inputs commands into the game (albeit triggered by voice), whereas ACT merely reads network packages, so there is a possibility they might take action. On the other hand, there was that guy who played FFXIV with literal brain implants, and I cannot imagine the devs restricting accessibility technology.
