Note: I don't know everything, naturally, but if I can help I will. Also, there may be grammar and spelling mistakes, I am very sorry.
It has been a full year since my return to FFXIV and what a wild year it has been. I played for a short while during 1.0 and left due to personal reasons only to return once more during 2.0 and, once again, leave for personal reasons. It wasn't until early 2019 did I make my full return to the game and have remained active every day since.
With my original service account lost to the ages I set out making a new one, a new character and got myself ready for, what I assumed would be, a FAIRLY straight forward gaming experience, considering I had prior knowledge of the game and its basic mechanics. OH BOY WAS I WRONG. In just a few short years everything had changed for the better. Somethings remained the same while others had been improved and some...not so improved? I was a complete newbie player once more and never in my life had I been so confused and lost, I blamed it in part to my long hiatus to the game as well as the fact that...I am rather lazy and did not read the beginners guide that SE had posted. And when i did read it- I found that I was still a little confused and I still had a good chunk of unanswered questions.
There was so much information out there that I really had no idea where to begin- so, I pretty much just ignored it all for a few months and just did MSQ as well as level my ONE class. As time went going on I began to get a better grasp of things, I payed closer attention to the notes that appeared on screen, I read things and looked things up outside of the game to help get a better understanding of my class, the lore in the game and so much more. I even started to keep a notebook of information as i came across it, such as gathering nodes, my job rotations, and so on!
But even with all that it was information overload. Maybe I was trying to absorb to much or maybe I just struggle to retain information- no matter what it was, I still felt like I was missing a lot, and I was right.
One thing I love about this game is that there is so much to do, even after you finish MSQ there are raids, crafting and gathering, housing, gposing (screenshots), treasure hunting, minion collecting, mount collecting- I can keep going but the list will get long and I don't think anyone wants to read all that right off the bat. But the point stands, there is so much in this game, so much in plain sight and so much hidden in other quests and such that I wish I would have known when I started so i could have better spent my time.
The point I am trying to get across- there is a lot out there and so many places to get information. I want to help people as much as I was helped when I returned and continue to, to this day. I want to compile resources so its truly easy for novices to find information without having to go through Reddit, facebook, discord and google (naturally you will still have to go through some links and such but you get the point) because I found that the beginners guide was kind of weak in my personal opinion, it was helpful but it wasn't and lets be real- how many people ACTUALLY sit down and read that whole thing? Not many. So I want to help out any way I can, because I know how it feels to be lost and just overwhelmed with all the information out there.
I had people help me, but not everyone has that, so I hope I can at least assist with this guide as it goes on! Don't forget, it's always alright to ask for help, the worst someone can say is no and most people are pretty helpful! If someone is silent in game don't take it personally, they are probably on a controller and can't type!
Three times a week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) I will be posting a blog with some useful information, everything from making your character to being in a static I hope to try and cover as much as possible and help those who are lost.
