I'm a sprout running GLA tank as my first class, and it's pretty rad. Got no use for Low Blow, since Shield Bash is superior, and also good for interrupting those pesky enemy actions. I keep Interject around as a backup in case I run into something with stun immunity (i.e., Earth Elementals).
I've gotten to splitting my hotbars between solo actions, party actions, field actions/emotes, and items. Feels like a good balance at my current level (24 as of this writing).
Speaking of items, I don't get much use out of them, even while soloing, except for certain foods and the odd potion or status restorer. Won't need Ethers at all since advancing into the PLD job gives just four MP-cost spells, and they're all high-level (past 50). Plus, there are some decent MP-recovery abilities thrown in the mix, so that's pretty okay too.
The only macros I'm setting up currently are for marking/targeting (PvE) and cycling through reinforcement skills (party/dungeons only). Though I don't have many of those skills to cycle through right now, and I generally only need to cast them once while PvE soloing. FYI, it's gonna be a long time until I get into any PvP stuff, if at all, so I'm not concerned for that particular setup.
In other news, I've knocked out all of my current Levequests/Guildhests, until I level up some more. Getting back to the main quest (finally) tomorrow!
Low blow is better then Shield Bash. Shield Bash runs on the GCD timer which later on will interfere with combos as well as could make the timing off for stun. Low Blow is OGCD and can’t weaved at any time.
As Ari said, Low blow is better for stuning ennemi on the go in between your normal combo.
Where Shield Bash is useful to stun multiple ennemies one after another.
As I plan multiple tanks, I generally use Low blow as it is shared across all tanks.
Flex welcome to the game, and good to hear you're having fun! Keep that positive attitude and keep that enjoyment flowing!
As others have mentioned, keep ALL your Role actions ready for use. Later when you are surrounded by packs of MOBs you will find a shield bash + Low blow will ease to pressure on your healer. As cycling through the 5+mobs chewing on your face will incrementally add up to copious amounts of damage. Those two abilities will help out quite a bit.
Just a NON-pro tip for ya.
I see. I'll rethink the arrangement of my role actions, then. Thanks for your input, everyone!
