What is the Data Center Travel system?

As part of our measures to reduce congestion, we will be conducting a public test of expanded Data Center Travel functionality. See here for more information.

The Data Center Travel system allows you to visit Worlds outside of your logical data center while remaining within your physical data center. (*1)

The World Visit system allows players to temporarily visit other Worlds within the same data center. The Data Center Travel system broadens this range of available destinations to include Worlds of differing logical data centers.

Certain restrictions apply while visiting other Worlds, but players may still form parties, buy items, and otherwise freely enjoy gameplay.

Additionally, opening travel to Worlds in other data centers affords players the opportunity to share adventures with a wide array of friends and further expand their in-game community.

To visit Worlds within the same logical data center, please use the World Visit system.

Visiting Other Worlds

1Select the "Visit Another Data Center" subcommand on the Character Selection screen.

A brief explanation of data center travel will appear. After confirming its contents, press "Select World."

2Select the data center and World you wish to visit.

Press "Confirm" to continue.

3Respond to the confirmation window to send your request.

If your destination is correct, press "Proceed" to begin data center travel.

4Travel will begin automatically.

Once data center travel begins, you will be returned to the title screen.
Please wait until travel has been completed.

※You cannot cancel this process while it is underway.

5Log in via the Character Selection screen.

A window will appear once your character has successfully arrived at their destination. Pressing "OK" will send you to the Character Selection screen, where you may log in with your traveling character.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I return to my Home World?: A: To return to your Home World, select the "Return to Home Data Center" subcommand on the Character Selection screen.
※When logging out from another World, please note that you will automatically be returned to your Home World if you do not log in again within 30 days. Depending on the timing of your last logout, you may be returned after more than 30 days have passed.
Q: Is there a limit to how long I can visit another World?: A: There are no such limits.
Q: If I enter a duty while visiting another World, where will my character be sent when the duty is over?: A: Your character will be returned to the World you are visiting.
Q: What happens if I log out while visiting another World?: A: The next time you log in, you must select a character from the World and data center you are currently visiting.
※A traveling character may also be listed under their Home Data Center, but you will be unable to log in with them from there.
Q: Can I access the World Visit system from any World I visit?: A: You may freely access the World Visit system while visiting any World or data center.
※On the Character Selection screen, traveling characters will appear under the World from which they last logged out.

Recognizing Characters from Other Worlds

A character visiting from a World in a different logical data center within your physical data center will be labeled as a "Traveler," while a character visiting from a World in a logical data center outside your physical data center will be labeled as a "Voyager." In both cases, the character's display name will include the appropriate label.

Restrictions

Although most of the game's features can be used while visiting another data center, there are certain restrictions.

Moogle Delivery Service	You may receive notifications for letters from friends or GMs, but you will be unable to use the moogle delivery service. ※Notifications will be indicated with the red letter icon. ※You must return to your Home World to receive moogle letters. ※The delivery of purchases and rewards can be confirmed from your Home World.
Retainers	Retainers cannot be summoned, hired, or released from service. The following quests can only be accepted from your Home World: An Ill-conceived Venture (Gridania, Limsa Lominsa, Ul'dah)
Markets	Items cannot be sold on the market, but purchasing is available. ※The FINAL FANTASY XIV Companion App can be used to put items on the market even when your character is visiting another World. Read on for more information!
Friend List	Friends in different data centers cannot communicate. Parties cannot be formed with friends in different data centers. Login status of friends in different regions will not be displayed.
Free Company	Free company chat cannot be used. Free companies cannot be created, joined, or left. Free company information cannot be viewed. Login status of free company members will be displayed in the chat log as usual. Company credits cannot be earned. The effects of company actions will not be applied. Login status of free company members in different regions will not be displayed.
Linkshell	Linkshells cannot be used. Linkshell information cannot be viewed. Linkshells cannot be created, joined, or quit.
Cross-world Linkshell	Cross-world linkshells can be joined, and membership data will be organized by data center. Messages cannot be sent or received between cross-world linkshells of differing data centers. Cross-world linkshells cannot be created. Cross-world linkshell master privileges cannot be attained.
PvP Team	PvP Team chat cannot be used. PvP teams cannot be created, joined, or left.
Fellowships	Information on fellowships within your Home World's logical data center cannot be accessed. Fellowships cannot be created or joined. ※You may search for fellowships while visiting another data center.※The FINAL FANTASY XIV Companion App can be used to review your fellowship information or find and join other eligible fellowships even when your character is visiting another World.
Housing	Estates and apartments cannot be purchased. Residence sharing is unavailable. The following quests can only be accepted from your Home World: Bird in Hand
Eternal Bond	Ceremonies of Eternal Bonding are unavailable. Eternal Bonding quests are unavailable. Others' ceremonies cannot be attended. Invitations cannot be distributed.
Gold Saucer	Lord of Verminion tournaments cannot be entered. Triple Triad tournaments cannot be entered. Cactpot tickets cannot be purchased.
Deep Dungeon	Deep Dungeon results will not be saved to leaderboards.
Crystalline Conflict	Ranked matches cannot be joined.
Teleport	Eternity rings may only be used when both players are on the same World. You can only use an Aetheryte Pendulum to teleport to a nearby aetheryte if both players are on the same World. You can only teleport to a friend's estate when you are on their Home World.
Miner and Botanist	Legendary and unspoiled gathering nodes are inaccessible.
Calamity salvager	Belts cannot be retrieved from the Calamity salvager.
Others	Bonuses will not be applied for visiting new or preferred Worlds. If you are eligible for new or preferred World bonuses in your Home World, these will still apply when visiting another World. New and preferred World bonuses will not apply when visiting a World in a different physical data center. Any bonuses you are eligible for will be applied upon returning to the physical data center your Home World is located in. You cannot apply for a Home World Transfer while visiting another World. You cannot delete your character when it is visiting another World. You cannot travel to the Firmament while outside your Home World.

Using the FINAL FANTASY XIV Companion App While Visiting a World

The FINAL FANTASY XIV Companion App can still be used to organize your inventory and sell items on the market while your character is using the World Visit system. However, there are some restrictions.

Retainers	You cannot sell or discard items held by a retainer. You cannot move the items in your inventory, armoury chest, or chocobo saddlebag to or from a retainer.
Markets	You can purchase items from the market while visiting another World. You can list items held by a retainer on the market of your Home World, but you cannot list items in your inventory or chocobo saddlebag.

You cannot sell or discard items held by a retainer.

You cannot move the items in your inventory, armoury chest, or chocobo saddlebag to or from a retainer.

Markets

You can purchase items from the market while visiting another World.
