Versatile Lure just threw 3 hooks and got it on my 3rd nothing special.

i ignored all the info about the gear people have been saying and just used the versatile lure after a few failed tries with red balloons, got it first time after the swap.

Thar Talamh Siren [Aether]

If you happen to be behind on your quests and are doing this with a high gear level you won't be able to catch this, equip lower level gear (or remove gear pieces) so that your gear level is around 142 and you should catch it on the first try as stated below! :D

All I did was use the basic Cast and Hook right next to the quest giver. Nothing special required, caught on first cast.

I got it first try (was item level 458 with full lvl 80 scrips gear and scrips rod (Landsaint's)). You should be fine even with item level 29 (my old gear) because I got to this quest before I realized I could buy gear using scrips LOL
You don't need to chum too but it just makes it faster for you, saves you a lot of time.

I have been trying so hard and miserably with the red balloon is bait, and when I read the comments on here and switch to the versatile floor, I get it on my first and third try along with some other cool stuff. For what it’s worth I am already a level 79 Fisher, and just kind of catching up on the quest, so it might take a little longer if you’re doing it when you’re supposed to, but definitely go with with versatile lure

It took about 30-35 minutes for me to catch just one. But yes, versatile lure right by Mogukk is how I was able to catch it. Red Balloon bait did nothing for me at all.

Tried the Red Balloon Lure as recommended to mooch. Used 50 bait, only had two mooching opportunities, each time was a Medusa.

Three Versatile Lure and I got my Letter Puffer without requiring mooching.

Use the Versatile Lure.

Use a versatile or red balloon to catch a big sky fairy, then mooch with it! Got it after my first mooch.

Red balloon worked for me, anywhere in Landlord Colony, didn't even have Patience but obviously it helps. As long as you get the Mooch, you'll likely get it.

Can confirm Quest One Man's Fish is Another Man's Poison from Mogukk, went right behind him to the edge to obtain Letter Puffer and returned fish to him to complete quest.
Did not need to go to Churning Mists to complete quest.

Gear is Lvl 53- hat, gloves, pants, boots. Lvl 55 rod, shirt, and belt.
Gathering is 371. Perception is 297 w/o food

Spent so long using red balloon and mooching from the sky faerie for so long that i gained 3 levels. Switched to the versatile lure and caught my second attempt using patience. So much wasted time.

Versatile Lure works, but it lures the whole pool of fish, so it's all luck based.
I've found out that Metal Spinner lures only Sky Faeries, so you can mooch for Letter Puffer more consistently.
