Versitale Lure.
No mooching, no nothing just cast -> !!!

I find it silly I had to come check online to be told it's weather dependent. And clearly the mooching fish are also time dependant. I got plenty of Hedgemole Crickets that would mooch into Bullfrog, that would mooch into the lobster instead of the catkiller while it was foggy when I was trying to do it. As as soon as it hit midnight ET and weather changed to fair skies I started to get Vanuheads and Cloudfish, no matter if I used stonefly nymph or something else as bait.
Decided to go for the versitale lure as iirc someone said they got it without mooching.

If I have an expert NPC next to me that knows that the fish would have to be mooched, why couldn't it tell me about weather needs. Just keeps yapping on about mooching with a bullfrog. Could've even mentioned which bait to get bullfrogs with, if some other bait works better than the one I was using to even have to mooch to get the frog first.

Time: N/A (got mine at 8:55pm ET)
Bait: Versatile Lure
Actions: Chum + Prayers.
*I never caught a bullfrog and had to mooch so I can't confirm if this other method does/doesn't work.

Even fishing in Clear Skies, I'm getting nothing on my Bullfrog mooches except Yalm Lobster. I'm now up to nearly a dozen Yalm Lobsters. I've consumed several thousand GP, across several different days, using Patience and Hooksets. (I of course stop trying when the weather changes to something unsuitable, which requires me to come back again later - and this isn't precisely on the way to much.)

I still have no Catkiller, and tbh I might take a break because I'm not having fun anymore.

Weather: ***Clear skies*** (possibly fair skies too)

Time: No restriction (I caught it at 12:30am)

Location: Sea of Clouds X30.8 Y38.8 (The Eddies lake, next to Tona Vanu)

Tackle: 'Versatile Lure' worked fine.

Method: You're meant to catch a large bullfrog then mooch it (probbly with angler's patience). But I got a (!!!) catch with angler's patience alone on 2nd attempt.

Comment: Tona Vanu can go to the 7 hells, he could've said the fish like clear skies! anybody want a yalm lobster? I have 8.

Can be caught in Fair Skies at the Eddies 31.0 x 39.0 (Sea of Clouds) all I did was have snagging on and did this Cast > Hook (Bullfrog lg)> Mooch > Hook (Catkiller)

Fish is locked behind weather! I think it's clear skies. So if it's not clear don't waste your time

Can confirm Staria's strat works. Versatile lure and snagging, and I did it during daytime with fair skies.

Additionally if you have 5 Angler's Arts, make use of the Makeshift Lure. I caught a second one with it.

Finally managed to catch it after 1h trying. Location : X 30.9 Y 39.0 Z 0.5

Used Bladed Steel Jig : Patience => ! => Precision Hookset => Mooch => !!! => Powerful Hookset

Caught it during night with clear sky, sun isn't mandatory but clear sky is I guess cause i've been stuck for 1h without it, only catching those damn lobsters

I tried the Brute Leech. I tried the Versatile. patience always ran out before the Mooch opportunity. Tried for close to an hour.

I’m on lvl 80 Landsaint gear. Metal Spinner, Patience, (!) precision, Mooch, (!!!) Powerful.
Worked first time.

Staria strat remains effective. Caught it on my 4-5th try!

Spent 45 minutes trying to catch this sucker all sorts of ways. As soon as the weather turned clear I caught it immediately, screwed up the hook, lost it, and then caught it immediately again.

Spent scrips on 5x Brute Leech, but was fishing in the wrong spot.

I'm telling you, don't even bother with mooching. Brute Leech > !!! > Powerful hookset.

Did exactly as a commenter from last year suggested: Versatile Lure>patience>precision hookset>mooch>powerful hookset.

Got it on first try! Level 60 blue gear, ate some food beforehand.

Went right next to Tona Vanu (31.0, 38.7), snagging enabled, versatile lure.
Patience not required, but doesn't hurt to use.

Cast -> ! -> Bullfrog -> Mooch -> !!! -> Catkiller

common sense items. gear at required level for quest.
bait: versatile lure
location: right next to Tona Vanu
skill: if you have surface slap good to use to get the rid of unwanted catches. other wise no others are used.

I used a single cast with the versatile lure. No buffs or debuffs were in use. No mooching is necessary at this level.

Caught the Catkiller without Mooching (!!!!) beside Tona Vanu with Patience and Powerful Hookset on a Versatile Lure. Gathering 340ish and Perception 268ish. Fair Skies at 4pm ET.

A lot of answers here but it was pretty simple. Versatile Lure>patience>precision hookset>mooch>powerful hookset.
