At lvl 100, as someone mentioned, you can force the catch and be done with it in minutes. I used this macro:

Use hook manually and I recommend just hooking !! bites so you don't lose the Prize catch buff on another fish. I tried to macro the right time for hook but this fish has a wide window for hooking which makes it not macroable. If you really want to macro hook this window of time gave me good results but not it's not reliable (add these two lines at the end of the macro above in this comment)

Also, you need the Augmented Splendorous Fishing Rod to catch this fish, not the Splendorous Fishing Rod. I lost almost and hour trying to get this fish with the Splendorous Fishing Rod

At level 100 Fisher, you can all but force this catch, almost ignoring all ! bites with the new ambitious lure!

You will want to manually Patience II and Powerful Hookset, since the bite window is large enough to not be macroable 100%. You can also manually ambitious lure manually til you get the proc message "You have a feeling your next cast will land a large-sized fish!", to save some GP, but overall, not worth in my opinion.

Patience II Method is an avg of 190 GP per fish, while Prized Catch method is an avg of 260!

The Prize Catch method is definitely more reliable for this one, in my experience. Spangled Pirarucu is the only !! fish you can catch outright at this hole (all other !! and !!! fish have to be mooched), so you can ignore everything else. Pop PC, ignore ! bites, hook !! bites and pop PC & IC, rinse & repeat.

If you're short on Hi-Cordials or the scrip to get them, HQ Cordials will work and can either be crafted or bought off the market board; just remember that if you're short on GP, you can wait on the collectable confirmation screen.

Also having success with the Prize Catch + Hi Cordial method below.

Long story short: two other fish are faster than the one you want, and the timing (!!) is a whopping 10-18 seconds. Macros will be unreliable; you'll likely want to do this one manually.

Since this fish is harder to catch, we'll focus instead on maximizing collectability to require fewer catches. For this reason, Prize Catch is preferred over Patience. With i620 gear, you should be getting two rewards (~1000) nearly every time.

Enable Collector's Glove and equip your augmented rod in case you forgot. Always lead with Prize Catch (skip Patience). Then just Hook anything, popping Prize Catch again for each cast.

When you get the right catch (!!), pop Identical Cast + Prize Catch to pick up a second. Use Thaliak's Favor + Hi-Cordial as needed. Rinse, repeat.

Do note that if you're low on GP and everything's on cooldown, you can wait on the confirmation screen for your first catch for timers and GP to recover.

What I did:
My Method took 2 hours, 98 baits, and 30 Hi-Cordials.

Step 1:
Patience II> Catch everything to build stacks of Angler's Art.
If during this phase I caught a Spangled Pirarucu, I used Identical Cast (IC) and a Hi-Cordial. Continued until I had 8 Angler's Art Stacks.

Step 2:
PC>Cast>Wait for bite
(!)=Do nothing, loose bait but keep PC buff.
(!!)=HOOK>IC>PC(!!)>HOOK
Use Hi-Cordials and Thaliak's Favor as needed to keep PC on and IC on (!!) Bites.

Step 3:
Repeat step 2 until out of resouces.
Once out of resources, repeat step 1
Return to step 2

I tried the prized catch way and it didn't work as well for me as the patience ll and powerful Hook with IC when able. Pick your poison i suppose. Happy fishing!

I used the same method as Nilani and would recommend using that to anyone who asks. As they mentioned, Prize Catch is only used when you hook a fish. I would start with Prize Catch, use a Cordial, then cast and wait for !! and only !! to use Hook. If it was ! then let it eat the bait and recast. Between Thaliak's Blessing (every 3) and Hi-Cordials, I rarely didn't have the GP for both Identical Cast and Prize Catch. So long as you're quick you can cordial to get the gp to activate identical cast and prize catch. Only if I got multiple !! in a row did I have to skip on an Identical Cast as I only had the GP for Prize Catch (once, maybe twice). Also, timing will be dependent on your stats. Just remember to have your Aug Splendorous pole equipped or you'll just be wasting bait.

I did not use Patience. Instead, I would use Prize Catch, make sure I have enough GP for Identical Cast and then use IC as soon as I caught one. So long as you have popped IC, then you just wait for 200 GP to build up and hit Prize Catch before casting again.
If you do not get a !!, you simply let the fish eat your bait since Prize Catch only pops if you reel the fish in. You go through more bait and it takes time to let GP build, but it worked best for me.
One or two Ocean Fishing trips builds up White Gatherer's scrips fairly easy if you are running low.

At least i listened to la hee whole fishing time and yes macro is very helpful

It's the only !! tugger so if you get one of those other ! fishes you could try Surface Slap to increase the chance of your next fish, or you could Identical Cast the right fish then use Patience I to reel in the next one with enough collectability to get 2 reward items. Bring plenty of Cordials.

I wasn't able to catch any of these without first eliminating one of the other fish, and still wasted over 300 baits on them.

Start with a fruit worm > catch a pipira or crab > surface slap > switch to scrip baits and try for the pirarucu (big tug) > identical cast, get another pirarucu > switch back to fruit worm
