Introducing New Optional Services (03/27/2014)
Starting today we will be expanding our optional services to include the ability to hire additional retainers. This optional service will add an additional retainer to all of the characters associated with the service account to which it is added. If adventuring has been bountiful and left you needing more inventory space, or if you’d like to boost the number of retainers you can utilize for ventures, then be sure to add another retainer to support your needs!
Hiring Additional Retainers
With the addition of each optional service, you will be able to hire one additional retainer for all characters under the service account to which the optional service is applied. The optional service retainers function in the same way as your normal two retainers that are automatically included in your game subscription.
Users can add up to two additional retainers via the FINAL FANTASY XIV: Mog Station.

Additional Retainer Service Fee
$2.00 per 30 days for each additional retainer
* If you are adding a retainer during your active subscription, the service fee will be prorated based on the amount of time left until the next billing period or until your subscription period is set to end. If you have chosen a credit card as the payment method, the minimum for pro-rated credit card charges will be $1.00.
* Please note that the process to continue utilizing this additional retainer service may differ depending on the payment method you have selected.
* If you subscribe to the additional retainer service while logged in to the game, you will need to re-login to have your subscription reflected.

Before you are able to hire retainers, and therefore take advantage of the optional services, you must complete the main scenario quest “The Scions of the Seventh Dawn” to unlock the in-game retainer feature.
Additional In-Game Retainers
In-game retainers are listed in chronological order based on the date they were hired. Any additional retainers will be displayed at the bottom of the retainer list.
Reducing the Number of Retainers
Additional retainers can be used until the end of a billing period even if you reduce the number of additional retainers during your subscription period. Also, even if a subscription is cancelled, additional retainers can be used again once you reactivate a subscription.
*Any items stored on additional retainers will be maintained as long as the retainer is not released from service while in-game. It will be possible to retrieve the stored items, as well as receive rewards for ventures, when you are once again able to utilize the additional retainer.
* Please note that any additional retainer subscription cancellations will take place at the end of the current billing cycle for credit card and Crysta users.

Releasing an In-Game Retainer
In this example, let’s imagine that you currently employ the two basic retainers (A and B) that you earned via completing the in-game quest and have hired two additional retainers (C and D) through the use of the optional service. Retainers were hired in the order of A, then B, then C, and finally D while on a recurring subscription.
If you release retainer B, then retainer C will be moved to the recently opened spot and become retainer two.

With the above situation in mind, in the event that you do not remove the second additional retainer, you will incur a service fee even with no retainer currently in service.

However, if you have cancelled the recently vacated second additional retainer slot via the Mog Station, then you will not be charged a service fee.

If you’ve selected a payment method other than a recurring subscription, you will have to go through the process again on the day that your subscription ends.
