An Au Ra, Nicadaemus spent his youth in the Black Shroud, exploring and hunting the region around its capital, Gridania. It was not until he met his then companion and future wife, Alice that he broadened his horizons and set out for Limsa Lominsa and fortune. However, during the Sixth Astral Era Alice was captured by the Garleans somewhere near Castrum Oriens. Seeking out his wife, Niko returned to the Shroud, joining his efforts to both the Wood Wailers and God's Quiver, of whom in the ensuing months of war prior to the Calamity he became a joint commander. As the state of aggression escalated, the Garleans led routine strikes on Gridania seeking to bolster their numbers further by kidnapping and brainwashing Eorzeans. Leading an ambush on one of these evening raids, Niko took captive an ebon haired Auri known as Raven whom he immediately recognized to be, in fact, Alice. Through exhaustive mental reconditioning efforts Niko was able to break through to Alice, ultimately regaining her trust and affection. Sadly, at the time of the Calamity, Niko was lost amidst a shimmering white light as Bahamut unleashed Mega Flare upon the battlefield at the Carteneau Flats. Five years later the Xaela inexplicably returns to Eorzea, bewildered but determined to learn the fate of Alice.
