10.) "Can you define a turning point in your character’s life?"

There have been many turning points in Percimont's life. Some, like the death of his family, I have discussed in my previous posts. Others include his first meeting with Yda and Papalymo which ultimately lead him to the Scions of the Seventh Dawn. Perhaps the most pivotal moment in his life occurred five years after the Calamity, just after his 17th nameday.

After the death of his family and the destruction of their farm, Percimont struggled to survive, relying on the skills he had learned from his family and the meager supplies that he was able to salvage. In time, he was able to rebuild a small house and begin working some of the land. He grew enough food to feed himself and to trade with passing merchants and adventurers. Despite his accomplishments, his existence was hard and lonely. But he knew no other lifestyle and no other place in the world, and he spent five long years alone on the farm.

Then one day, something happened to spur him to leave. Percimont was retrieving water from a nearby stream in the woods when a small band of Ixali attacked his farm, burning his crops and setting his house on fire. They began harvesting smaller trees near the edge of the clearing and began cutting into the trees that had sprouted from his family's graves. Enraged and armed only with a pitchfork, Percimont attacked. Luck and determination (and perhaps divine intervention) carried him through the fight. His victory came too late, however, and he had again lost all that he had worked so hard to rebuild.

Frustrated and alone, he knew that he did not have the strength to rebuild again. He spent the night sleeping atop his family's graves, preparing himself for the seemingly impossible task of leaving home behind. When dawn broke, he packed his few remaining belongings, grabbed his pitchfork for protection, and set out on the path to Gridania.
