1.0 was not better than ARR
Public
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/183727-Our-true-feeling-for-this-gameThreads like this make my blood boil. The way some people take fond memories of a game that failed and try to force the systems that made it fail into a much more successful title just because they're personally not having fun while the vast majority are.
I got years of fun out of FFXI, but I'd never try to put the gameplay style of that game into ARR. Not only is it impractical for SE to revamp their game AGAIN, but it'd be a huge step back as that style of MMORPG just does not work anymore. The only ones who push for this shit (while trying to act like they speak for "the majority") are those who are trying to recapture their best times in MMOs, and guess what? Even if they did exactly what these plebs asked, they'd still be unhappy because YOU CAN'T RELIVE THE PAST.
1.0 failed because the gameplay was shite. You enjoyed it because of the friends you made and experiences you had, and you can do the same thing in this game if you'd just stop pouting about how SE and Yoshi P "betrayed" you.
If ARR is so bad you feel the need to mention how little you log on in ever post you make, or how shitty the game is, just quit and find something you DO enjoy without trying to screw everyone else over by going backwards just to please yourselves.
Well if people liked 1.0 but are not having fun in ARR they have full right to say they think 1.0 was better.
I feel your pain.
The rose-colored glasses thing happens in every MMO and it's annoying. I don't think a week went by in Blizzard's forums without a "Vanilla/WotLC/BC/etc was way better than it is now" thread.
The worst part is that logic has no effect on these people. Even when you point out how annoying or frustrating 1.0 may have been (and I've heard the stories), they act like it's a positive that the game had parts that suck. That it being over complicated is somehow a good thing.
Don't forget the people who insist that being murdered by mobs in the overworld, using airships to travel or being forced to walk everywhere was more "immersive"
They have a right to say 1.0 was better, they don't have a right to act like it's a fact and that they speak for everyone when they say ARR is shitty.
What I always wanted to know was if 1.0 was so much better, why did it get so much negative press and why are we not playing 1.0 now?
Exactly. The people clamoring for 1.0 to come back and replace 2.0 don't care that it failed. If they had fun it means it was better, despite what EVERYONE ELSE thought.
We are not playing 1.0 right now because everybody does not have the same opinion. And if you let press and reviews completely dictate what games you are interested, then I feel sorry for you and suggest that you go back to playing Watch_Dogs and ESO.
I played 1.0, and it was bad. I also enjoyed ESO a whole lot (but not so much Watch_Dogs).
Well based on your "most people say it's bad so it must be bad" logic then you aren't allowed to enjoy ESO because most people (myself included) say it's a steaming pile of crap.
I dunno where you're getting this from. 1.0 is bad and I know it because I played it personally and it was one of Square Enix's biggest financial flops of all time and nearly killed the company. That's proof of the failure right there. 2.0 is making them money hand over foot in comparison.
Saying something is good or bad implies subjectivity and therefore can't be judged based off things like finances and whatnot. You also can't decide for other people whether something is good or bad.
And to say 1.0 nearly killed SE, you clearly don't know anything about SE.
What do you mean it can't be based off finances? The game was a massive loss in profits for SE, and they -shut it down-. This shows that it was unsuccessful. If it was unsuccessful, it failed. If it failed, it was bad.
You sound like every other 1.0 apologist, trying to use every excuse you can to show what a GREAT GAME it was. If it was great, it would still exist.
Success and being good or bad are not the same thing. Take Watch_Dogs for example. It was the most pre-ordered game in history, but it's only an average, maybe slightly above average game.
And I never even played 1.0.
