  • About Free Companies

    A community to play together with friends on the same World.

    Free companies are player-run organizations which allow their members to pool resources, be it items or gil, to accomplish feats that would be difficult or impossible for a single individual.
    The benefits of joining a free company include a dedicated chat channel for all members, the ability to purchase an estate to serve as the group's base of operations, and the use of free company actions that grant bonuses such as increased experience points.
    No two free companies share the same goals and motivations, so be sure to choose the free company that's right for you.

  • About Linkshells and Cross-world Linkshells

    A dedicated chat channel for players who share a common aim.

    Linkshells and cross-world linkshells are chat groups which allow for quick and easy communication between players who are not necessarily in a party or free company. Unlike free companies, players are able to join multiple linkshells, making it possible to join different communities dedicated to various aspects of the game.

    Linkshells: allow communication with any players on the same World.
    Cross-world Linkshells: allow communication with any players on the same data center.
  • About PvP Teams

    A team dedicated to enjoying PvP duties.

    Teamwork is key, so be sure to find a team with whom you're confident you can hone your skills together.

    PvP duties: allow players to compete against one another in unique instanced arenas.

How, you ask, are you like Costco's cafeteria? Well, let me feed you baby bird. You see, here at <whims> we're all about value. What do you desire most in life? Hot dogs for $1.50 at a never-changing price? That's a fair bargain and, like us, a great deal. We live life like a slice of pizza that is bigger than the ego of your average XIV FC recruiter: hot and ready and crusty as hell. These are qualities that I know you're looking for and, if you aren't, then that's probably good on your part.

Wow, great sell. How do I get a membership to such a prestigious organization?
No membership fees needed for the discount FC, just drop us a line in or out of game.

Big Whims <whims> is the culmination of a small group of longtime friends trying to make it on their own in the big city after reviving a long dead FC from 2015. We've got terrible personalities and aren't nearly as funny as we think we are. Our fashion sense is middling and we've been raiding so long we have more grey hair than the average XIV player. That being said, we're decently alright people most of the time.

Ultimately, we are creating something new and want to grow it with other people. That's kind of what's most fun about mmos, right?

So... why should you consider taking this whimsical adventure with us?

What we offer:
• Fancy house with impeccable decoration, perfectly suited for your AFK needs.
• The chance to build something from the ground up with no strings attached; we're rich and fund everything!
• A group of XIV players active since launch with no intention of stopping.
• Activities in all forms of content and we enjoy participating, teaching, and leading the way.
• Map nights, mount farm nights, game nights, meme nights, waste everyone's time nights, the list goes on.
• Want to play something else? We dabble in everything and enjoy games other than just XIV.
• Whimsical Fleu, the biggest of whims and leader of the FC, made a really nice discord server & we're very active.
• We old. Not like... old, old. We welcome everyone, but you gonna be getting 90s references a lot.
• Most members are EST/CST, with a couple PST. We would never discriminate against your poor time zone choice, but be aware that a lot of stuff we do caters towards the superior time zones.

At the end of the day, we're just a close-knit group of nerds that have been playing games together for a very long time and are looking for some like-minded people to join us on a whim. Whether you're new to the game or having been playing since launch, we just want to foster a community of fun; be that in and out of game.

You should join us with the expectation that you're going to be around a fun group of people who just want to better each others time online. We're a helpful group who want to promote growth within the company, be that through leveling, crafting, item farming, or beating raid content. We've got former raid leaders, gladiator-level pvpers, and hello kitty online adventurers. It's a mixed bag and that's what makes things fun. We also need more people for in-house game nights so please be a terrible Jackbox artist.
