got 5 at 24.5, 11.4 of Ruby Sea with Versatile Lure and normal hook. took 9 casts, and got the last 4 in a row. Very straight forward. Honestly not sure why anyone would bother using bait for this, considering you have to spend gil and you loose the bait while I spent nothing and got it basically immediately

I just did normal casts with no abilities active and got a giant plesiosaurs catch every single time I used "Surface Slap" after catching a Glass Flounder.

This post is based on my user friendly and comfortable experience: They're easy!

Location: Ruby Sea, Crick, at the end of the ferry dock pier, X24.5 / Y11.4.
Remark: The location is mandatory (finding it is part of the quest).

Bait: Versatile lure works wonderfully.

Method: I tested simple cast/hook, patience/powerful hook, snagging on & off in both cases and everything worked well!
I couldn't notice a spawning rate difference. So just get fun and use what you prefer.

Other skills: Identical Cast doesn't work and skills like big-game fishing didn't seem to change anything. So I would recommend not to bother.

You can get 4 casts sometimes with 1 use of Patience.

Right off the end of the pier at the coordinates listed, no need to mooch the shrimp. I just used patients, live shrimp or versatile both work for bait and when the !!! pops you should get them.

Can confirm, Live Shrimp; !!! fish, use Chum (patience and other skills are not required) and that's all. x24 y11, the extra hook skills do not work (double hook, triple hook) in getting this quest done quicker.

I didnt fish anything in the Dark, till it was around 4 a.m.
They seem to go to sleep at Night, after that, it was basicly almost all of them in a Row
WITHOUT Mooch II and just with Versatile Lure.

Kuro Kuznetzov Hyperion [Primal]

If you try from on or near the easternmost Onokoro pier it should pop up a message saying 'Mark for the quest "Farewell, and Thanks for the Fish" detected.' That's probably your best/fastest location, but you can apparently catch them anywhere in Onokoro water, with live shrimp or just a Versatile Lure and a little patience. (That's patience, lowercase, not Patience, I didn't need that. I also never got one from a Mooch, just normal casts, but that might just be an RNG factor.)

As Ghalaxia Wild said, Red shrimp lure to reduce the amount of potential catches. when you get ruby shrimps. use surface slap and almost guarantee's Giant Plesiosaur.

Took into account all the comments here. Use LIVE SHRIMP and don't bother with versatile lures.

Live Shrimp narrowed down the pool of fish caught from 5 to 2...I spent 10 minutes with VL and only caught 1. After switching to Live Shrimp I caught the remaining 4 in under 5 minutes.

Use LIVE SHRIMP! (and Chum to make everything go faster) =)

Make sure you have snagging on. Until I started using it I missed every triple exclamation point catch and after enabling it I only missed 2/7 triple point catches. Aside from that I just used basic cast and hook.

Notes: Mooching literally never worked for me, and I seemed to have better odds catching these without Patience II. Just cast and catch and you ought be fine.

Solaria Lionel Goblin [Crystal]

For the Farewell quest, use live shrimp as bait. Patience not a must, but does seem to increase the chances of getting a (!!!) bite = Giant Plesiosaurs.

Mac Douggie Sargatanas [Aether]

Ignore all other comments if you want to finish this quickly. Go to the dock in Onokoro with Live Shrimp, cast your lure. Catch a ruby shrimp. Then... Surface Slap!

Recast and ignore all bites until you see !!! It will take you 3 to 5 casts max.

You will get all 5 in under 30 mins. If you don't, sacrifice a Lalafell to RNGsus because he is not happy with you!

Arlacent Dauveneux Behemoth [Primal]

Started off on the dock outside of Onokoro using a Versatile Lure, but didn't give me the "Mark for quest" popup till I used Live Shrimp. Can buy it off the merchant in Onokoro. You can mooch off Ruby Shrimp and it'll usually give you one, but any !!! you see will give ya one.

Versatile lure, snagging on, nothing else special.
Caught 4 in a row, some trash and another after a miss.
