I've not read many guides on Ninja, finding joy out of figuring out rotations on my own unless I'm at my wits end, but I also listen to feedback and advice from peers.
So as of lvl 50, here is my rotation:
Huton (always on during battles)> Trick Attack (if able> Mutilate (Dot)> Spinning Edge > Shadow Fang (Dot)>Spinning Edge > Gust Kick > Dancing Edge (Dot)> Spinning Edge >Gust Kick >Aoelian Edge
During the rotation, I will use the ninjitsu I find most appropriate for the situation (Raiton mostly), saving AoEs like Duton or Death Blossom for mobs in groups of 3 or more.
My main goals is to keep as many comboed DoTs on as possible until the mob dies.
Sound good so far? How will it change in the future?
I'm loving Ninja btw! Nice break from WHM
Dancing Edge is not a DoT. It's a slashing resist debuff. It should go up first and has priority to maintain over everything else. The only exception being if you have a Warrior who is keeping up Storm's Eye then you can use Aeolian Edge instead of Dancing Edge.
And generally your rotation for Mudras on single target is going to be some combination of Suiton(and Trick Attack)/Huton/Raiton repeated over and over
As a melee, you don't want to add a dot to an enemy if they are going to die before that dot has ticked enough to do enough damage to justify using a dot over another skill.
For Example, Monk Demolish does 70 potency from behind on hit and puts a 50 potency tick for 21 seconds. The alternative attack, snap punch does 180 on flank. It requires three full ticks or about 9 seconds for demolish to do more damage than snap punch. con't...
so if the enemy dies before demolish has ticked down to 12 seconds remaining, then demolish was wasted and you are dealing less than optimal damage. Dots also typically cost more TP than other skills, so it is always good practice to be mindful of their usage and attept to optimize them.
