Question about parsers

What is the deal with using parsers in FF14? It is officially not allowed or a gray area? It is bannable if you are caught using one or only if you berate and attack other players because of the stats you see. I am really curious to know for um......reasons ;p

They are technically not allowed. However the developers and GM's are well aware a large majority of the community uses them. As long as you don't use a parser to bash another player openly they will not do anything about it.
IMO they should have given a ingame dps meter for you and yourself only. This would allow console players to track themselves and improve. The overall majority of the community would be better I think. And you would see less harassment.
Using parsers is bannable action.
Since its client side, there is no record on the server, SE can't do anything about it. Unless someone stupid enough to discuss it via ingame chat, and he/she will get ban if someone reported.
I remember someone got banned because he uploaded a Youtube video with parser in it(?), but not anymore. SE doesn't accept about 3rd party evidence, such as video or screenshot.
Many people selling endgame run with real money doesn't get banned using this loophole.
@Salt - I honestly doubt an ingame parser will make the community better, lol!
I think it is funny that something so prohibited is so widely used. ;p Well, it's just like anything not allowed. If you aren't really going to enforce your rules, people will just ignore them, making the rules kind of worthless to have even implemented. I guess though it keeps major abuse of it from happening.
It's only prohibited to prevent people from flaming/being rude because of dps. SE knows that people use them, and they know there's nothing they can do about it. Also they know that if they banned lesser people for using them, they would have to ban the major raiders. And they don't want to do that because the major raiders get them attention by doing things like making videos and streaming.

Anyway, I'm on PS4, I have no parser. Could be nice for me to know if I'm improving, nothing more.
I was on alphascape v3 normal and a Sam just said: "who's the best dps? me!" the same Sam took all mechanics, put the flame aoe under the boss etc... for me, even if he has the best metter, it was the worst player in the party. Not everything is about numbers.
technically, for us ps4 players..the stone , sea and sky is kinda our dps meter.
i even think there is a site where you put your time in on which ever "boss" your killing..and it will give you an estimated dps number i believe
