Usually it is recommended to avoid macros on actions that are on the global cooldown (GCD) or have a cast time, because it affects damage per second (DPS), or healing. To illustrate, If you press Cure, then press Cure again just slightly before it is completely cooled down, you will start casting as soon as it is ready. But if you use a macro'd Cure button, you will have to wait until the first Cure is completely finished cooling down before you will be able to execute the following Cure. Any presses of the macro'd Cure will not execute until the first Cure cast is completely cooled down
However, macros can be helpful at times and make your button presses more efficient, making the game easier to play. Especially when there are so many buttons to press already. It can get chaotic @_@;; and the chaos will definitely affect your damage output too.

As a former WoW player that spent some time healing, macros in FF seem WAY more restrictive than the ones in WoW. For example in WoW I had a lot of space saved because I had macros that would cast a damage ability on a hostile target or cast a heal on a friendly mouseover target (or myself if I had no target).
Not only do we have the same character name, but we play the same role and you have helped me tremendously with these macros. What magic is this?

A healing action, even in a macro is use on myself if an enemy is selected. So there's no error and we don't move to the next line
