Bots on dungeon runs, do you see them?
Public
I'm curious to know, how often do you see bots on dungeon runs?
I ask because I think I encountered my first obvious one last night in Tam Tara normal. I was there with my game wife Aria, me healer and her tank, and he was a arcanist. The guy never talked, barely cast any DOT's the whole dungeon, and was only using the topaz carbuncle, even AFTER Aria asked him to change to the Emerald one. (of course no response from him) Plus, the clincher, he was trying to melee the monsters all the time, getting really close to them instead of staying far away. Oh, also he always fell behind like he was getting stuck in places.
Afterwards, Aria made a comment that it had to be a bot player and looking back, I am inclined to agree with her.
Yes, it could have been just a bad player, but seriously, BARELY using what is like 70% of your damage spells? No one is THAT bad.
I saw new player "that bad" but after a short explanation they improved a lot. I often with people that does not speak but they are playing well or decently enough for me.
I never saw bots in dungeon, or at least not something obvious.
It’s possible. I would have dismissed them so they don’t get the exp they’re looking for
Possibly a bad player. You really underestimate how awful a player can be in this game lol. Especially when it's a player that refuses to use their kit even when you tell them how it works because "how about we don't tell others how to play their jobs?"
And no, I haven't encountered any bots in dungeons.
I have on occasion but not since arr. I did see one the other day out in the world whom was under the map doing fates and porting from one fate to another to get leveled.
"No one is THAT bad"
You would be surprised...
One time I know I ran into a bot because we locked them outside of a boss room and they teleported inside it.
That bot put more effort into fighting the boss than actual players.

How are they able to teleport into a locked room? Is this game easy to hack?
Well no, if the game were easy to hack then bots wouldn't even be a thing as gil sellers would be able to just give themselves gil.
As for teleporting I'd imagine it's a simple matter of sending false character position data to the servers.
WOW, if it really WAS a player then he gets the dubious honor of being the WORST player I have seen yet in this game. LOL I guess it really takes all kinds.
I mean I was bad in the beginning, but not THAT bad. ;-)
It's debatable to give that player the title. He was still a low level and an arcanist at that, now that title should go to the level 70s not performing good.
Perhaps he wanted to take the scholar approach to things? Beat some knowledge into them with the book! Could work right? Bloody paper cuts are evil!
I like to stop now and again and just slap enemies with my book sometimes. Usually marmots, rats, sheep, moles, dodos, ladybugs...anything that can't actually kill me too easily.
Oh, and the Thunderclap Guivre, but only after everyone else has beaten him silly. Hate him so much.
Also a bot would more than likely be programmed to use all of their abilities.
But yeah believe it or not there are people who are new to this game, and new to MMOs in general. And this game does an awful job of explaining how to play.

There is the training system although it’s super basic. I wish that was developed more allowing people to gauge their performance.
Ok, maybe I was to hard on the person, if it IS a person. ;-)
I am REALLY surprised though that they would get that far in the game and not bother to use DOT's. Maybe they don't understand them?
Oh, I know FULL well how much of a pain new jobs are, ESPECIALLY the ones that start you off with loads of skills already. (SAM and RDM, I'm looking at YOU!)
The basic ones though start you off rather easy and gradually dump stuff on you, which isn't so bad.
I noticed one tank that just auto attacked and no positioning at all and he has his grit on. Never cared to do any agro skills or anything when I queued in my alt to do a trial roulette. I wasn't sure if he's a bot but the way he moved felt like he's keyboard turning and auto attack the next target.
What do you mean "that far"? Tam Tara is at the beginning. To a new player who has never seen the concept of DoTs before, they would make no sense. This game does 0 about teaching how DoTs work, which makes no sense as prior to SB nearly every job had at least one. Even the tooltips don't explain a thing.
So maybe next time you come across a player like that, you can actually try to help them instead of just assuming they are a bot or telling them to do something differently with no reason why.
Besides, I wouldn’t mock a new player when you still struggle in Titan HM. It was quite rude to make that assumption as it’s quite common lower levels.
Oh Honey, I conquered that AGES ago, I'm doing synced extremes now. (well when I can ACTUALLY get them) Yes, I'm much improved. Still need to finish the synced Alex raid though.
And Kupo, when the person does not show ANY signs of even wanting to communicate, it is KIND of hard to give them any advice. You can say things, but get no feedback if they are even listening.
Are you doing synched primals or planning to do synched primals? Ravana and Bismarck are easier even not synched, and as is Thordan. Or are you talking about the SB primals?
both the 50 and 60 extreme primals, but it is slow going. I hope to eventually do them all synced one day. Of course it's easy to see them unsynced with all the WT stuff but it's really not the same.
With me just at the very beginning of stormblood, it will be awhile before see those primals.
I also just did the 2nd heavensward 24man tonight. Only one more to go to get that story line under my belt. I did not do too bad, only died twice to that stupid shape changing thing.
Not everybody has a keyboard to easily communicate. And based on how you worded the blog, I assume you didn't even ask them about what they were doing.
Also telling someone to switch carbuncles who has no concept of what tanking or dps even is with no context or reasoning will do nothing.
Think of it this way: Would you rather leave the dungeon being glad that at least you tried to help them, even if they didn't respond, or leave the dungeon bemoaning the quality of players in the game without trying to fix it?
Doing them synched also requires the dps and knowledge of the fight. If you want the full experience I suggest doing mininum item level of you want a sense of how it felt when it was relevant.
@Kupo, in my case I generally try to explain when possible but not always easy
@Shirayuki, even without the minimum item level you can feel how it was, I did around 10h of Ramuh HM during various mentor roulette and I only managed to conquer the fight once. Some person understand the mechanics quicker than others when you explain to them. For doing those fights with minimum item level you also need a preformed party that is ready for it.
I think minimum I level for EX primals would be a little TOO hard core for me. LOL I will say though, I DO like to do min I level for the story dungeons when I get to them in the MSQ to experience them properly. Of course I only set it to that if I have all FC members in my group, which I nearly always do for them.
One thing about 'suggesting' things about ones job to people is that it is a fine line between being helpful and being an annoying ass telling them how to do their job.
It's all about context and 'tone' in ones writing. Some are good at teaching and can say the right things, making the person feel like they are learning. Others come off as condescending, who one can tell has no experience talking to people properly and patiently, which ends up annoying the person instead of helping them.
Yoru, do you mean ex mode? Also, conquering it once proves nothing as can you do it multiple times or are you a one hit wonder? Minimum item level is for the people that know both the fight and their job.
Annabel, do not fear the challenge. You can even say they help improve the players for mechanics. I suggest you try it out for fun some time.
@yoru
10h of ramuh hm with only one clear?
did you mean ramuh ex?
But this is not about how the average player gives advice, this is about how YOU give advice.
@Shirayuki and @Mahdi, yes Ramuh ex. In roulette. So with most of the people new to the fight. The only clear I get that way was with my DRK and with the other tank and one healer also knowing well the fight. And with a team that improves really quickly during the session.
On most other cases people just left after the first wipe.
I arrive in the game when Nidhogg was released (more or less) so I killed initially all ARR EX unsync, it is only after I learn the full strat and kill them sync.
For me, I'm not good enough at the game to pay attention to the dungeon, my spells, and chat at the same time, so I rarely look at chat.
I also don't DOT trash mobs, because they die too fast.
I use my mouse to move and cast with keybound macros. I also used to have each macro start with the command to autoattack my target, something that I carried over from WoW until I learned how to macro better, but that would make my casters swing if they got into melee range. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I did level Summoner first, and it was at about the time this was posted. I'm wondering if I was your "bot" lol.
Since I boosted my toons, what confused me was the "synch" mode. To me, it seemed like all of my macros were broken, and I was freaking out trying to fix them while playing.
I'm sorry if it was me and I upset you enough that you had to post about it. I still suck at dungeons, and I avoid them if I can. I still have a dozen quests that want to force me into dungeons though. >:(
