The user interface, or UI for short, refers to the various on-screen elements and menus through which a player interacts with the game. The UI in FFXIV can be adjusted in myriad ways to ensure an enjoyable gaming experience.

Communication / Chat
All chat modes use the same chat interface.
Selecting the chat icon to the left of the chat message entry field allows you to change modes.
* Some modes are only available if your character has unlocked the related features or is a member of the corresponding groups.
* The name of the currently selected chat mode will be displayed above the text entry field.
The method for entering text differs depending on whether Enable Direct Chat is set to Off or On.
Enable Direct Chat Off
Pressing Enter or clicking on the message entry field will enable text entry.

Typing a message will automatically cause text to appear in the entry field.

Pressing the BACK button (Touch Pad button on PS5™/PS4™, View button on Xbox Series X|S) or selecting the message entry field will enable text entry.

Typing a message (with your preferred method of text input) will automatically cause text to appear in the entry field.
Once you have finished typing your message, press Enter to send.
* Your message will also be displayed in your own log window.
